I used to get 3 months of BC at a time, and now I only get one. I broke up with my boyfriend and I just stopped the pill. Too much time, effort, money... I would never start taking it on time because I had to go into the pharmacy within 7 days of the refill date and not a day sooner. If I could get it 3 months at a time I'd probably still be on it, or if I had an RX mail service, but as it stands it's too much trouble for a boyfriendless girl.

Holy shit, that's the funniest thing I've seen all day.

My health clinic at school is pretty good at the cost...I know the ring is $5 a month, which isn't bad at all

Hee hee... the running joke at my alma mater was that, if you went to the med center, they would ask you if you were pregnant... even if you were male.

I get my Ortho-Tricyclen for free from Planned Parenthood. I'm a college student w/no insurance & I make pitiful wages so I get an entire years supply for free. Sadly, this will stop once I get married in December & I'll have to start paying. Damn.

Lucky you. With insurance, I pay $35 for the shot, and a $25 copay to actually get it injected. That's only 5 bucks less than it cost to pay out of pocket before I got insurance.

You didn't have to have insurance before you enrolled in college?

Every school I've attended, even for the summer, required a certain level of coverage--either your own insurance or theirs--before you could enroll.

At my school you don't have to have insurance. For I've ever heard of that.

I pay $37 a month... used to be $34 for Yasmin. I can't take anything else cuz I gain a large amount of weight on them and I can't afford that. My doc, the first time, gave me 3 months worth free. Last year he gave me 4 months. Now I'm waiting to see if he'll give me 5 months free which would be absolutely fabulous.

My insurance gives me $1 off. Woohoo.

Whether or not your BC is covered also varies by state.

mine too....in fact I have an ex who's freshman roommate really was asked if he was pregnant...come to think of it, I think he (the roommate) hadn't dated at all at the time either.....

as to BCP, I'm just annoyed that I can't get the whole year at once like I used to......still much better than having to go every month, but still....

adpialumcsuc 02-04-2005 12:22 PM

Ok my company changed prescription carriers and I got my prescription yesterday $50 for the Patch. I used to pay $30 for 3 months before. This sucks.

Not Long Beach. I think that's probably b/c of the HIGH rate of students here in CA that don't have any type of health insurance. We automatically get insurance from the school b/c they have a great plan but you have to be enrolled to get it. If you're already under your parents insurance, you still get the school one. This comes in handy for the peeps who want BC but are afraid of going to their family physician even though there are confidentiality laws. I don't get their BC b/c I already get it for free from PP while at school, they'd charge me $15 a pack. It's still cheaper than what other women have to pay though.

axidhawkeye 02-05-2005 05:07 PM

this is kind of off subject, but did that Bush administration thing go through that pharmacists don't have to fill your bc prescription if they have some moral objection to it?

i remember that being an issue last year, but i'm not sure if it ever went through.

oh. PS, usually if you ask the doctor about it, he/she'll have free samples he/she can give you. Even if your prescription copay is $25, if you get two, that's $50 savings. Thumbs up.
My doc does this because I have no insurance, and I love her for it!

Same here!

Washington State Law requires that medical insurance coverd BC, which I love, and wish other states had. They are also doing a trial program called Take Charge which provides free Birth control (you sign up for a year and have to re-register ever year)
Here is the like to Take Charge

I think this program is the best thing to hit this state in a while, and I know a ton of people who are on it. It's not just generic pills either, you can get the patch, the ring, depo, EC, etc. I know I sound like an ad for it, but I know what it's like to be a college student and fighting with Planned Parenthood about how much you can pay for BC pills on a student income (been there, done that, still a student and sick of it.)
