OK, here's the deal with the Joe Pyne thing

...the point of it was to change to a name that more accurately reflected my personality here on Greekchat.

I originally selected Rain Man because of my ability to remember specific names, dates, and events to the minute off the top of my head. However, IMHO the majority of my posts do not reflect that (maybe about 1/3 of them do).

OTOH, I do know when people think Rain Man here on GC, they think controversy, debate, hard-hitting and brain picking and don't give a freak. I ran into an article on the Net that talked about a guy that pretty much mirrored my demeanor here on GC. And so, in light of the fact that I have been here 5 years, I felt that it was time to change to a more personality-accurate screen name. Unfortunately, others didn't see it that way so I kept the old name.

This is a common practice for celebrities and even businesses alike. So I am rather  about the posts that question my mental competence--it is a common occurence.

So why all the "contention" regarding the name change?

I dunno. Change thy name and be merry. :D PM John and request for a name change, so you don't have to re-register and start with a low post count.

Thanks to starang21 for setting the record straight.

It has absolutely no bearing whatsoever, hence the reason why I was confused at where you were coming from.

Hope this helps.

ROTFL at the fact that folk would post such absurd folly for the world to see as if Larry King, Ted Koppel, Tavis Smiley or NPR/BBC would come up to GC and do a story/segment on it.

Hope this answers your question.

So why didn't you just call yourself Joe Pyne, formally known as Rain Man...

I don't care what you call yourself... Just as long as you are happy and satisfied with what you call yourself...

How others see you... Well, you don't even want to know what goes through my mind... But, hey, I ain't you... And I don't have to look at you through my "rose colored glasses"... ;)

IMHO, while I did originally (as you know), it didn't go over quite as well as I anticipated, and probably would've created more mess than what it would've been worth.

*sigh* I need to get my own TV sitcom, I bet the ratings would go through the roof...

ttt - Countdown to 1000 posts

As the countdown to 1000 posts shrink little by little (and the Chrystale is chilled getting ready to be poured in honor to celebrate that glorious momentous occasion), some other notable moments during my time on GC come to mind:

The November/December 2003 Look At Me thread - and subsequent pics.

The DSTgent Delta Riot (and the subsequent Omega Riot)

Reinventing the D9 sororities--a great debate for all to read.

The Mystery Ghetto Theater 3000 thread.

Other notable moments to be posted, so don't sleep...
