What is the deal with crossed legs anyways?

THANK YOU! That is one thing that has always pissed me off. Girls will never want to join any sorority, especially yours, if they see you going psycho on someone.

Because no one wants to see your coochie.

Amen to that. If you're gonna go off on your boyfriend or chew out the guy at the Starbucks for not putting enough whipped cream on your frozen mocha, DO NOT WEAR LETTERS

We obviously! hehe. But I mean, if I'm wearing my hoodie with my letters on it and a pair of jeans...can't cross me legs?

Committing felonies.

Well, it's not written down anywhere, but I think it'd be bad.

OK, I'm curious. What about activism? If a GLO member wanted to participate in a protest wearing letters, would that be a problem?

Cross your legs at the ankle. You're doing your legs a favor in the long run by learning to do that anyhow.

I think it's pretty safe to assume that any behavior that could be construed as detrimental to the (Inter)National Organization is something that you don't want to wear your letters while wearing.

Yes, 33girl, that includes acting like a biotch! ;)

I don't know if that would be the best. Personally,I wouldn't. By wearing your letters you're in some ways displaying that your organization supports that particular cause. Which wouldn't be the case. One of our sisters was the Pres. of the University Democrats (editorial note: I am a democrat). She didn't wear her letters when doing politically active things. And i'm happy that she didn't. Because I wouldn't want other sisters to be uncomfortable with their org's name be associated with something that they vehemently opposed. Or for potential members to be turned off because of it.

Tru dat yo, although it's so different up here in the north. We have the no drinking in letters, wearing letters to the bar, etc., but we do not have any of those silly smoking rules about sitting and crossing legs, etc.
thats what i was thinking
and that if i turned my letters inside out, i'd still be a tri delt.

33 girl I agree with you on all above points.

Are we related....:)

tunatartare 10-25-2004 10:27 PM

I don't know if this is different pertaining to activism because it's only about women's rights, but last year, when they had the March For Women's Lives in Washington DC, one of the sororities went as a chapter function and I know that their members were encouraged to wear letters.

_Q_ 10-25-2004 10:32 PM

It seems like there's also sort of a continuum of causes, rather than clearly delineated boundaries. For example, marching around with a sign that implies that all XYZs favor a certain political candidate could be inflammatory. From my non-Greek perspective, I'd guess that wearing letters to volunteer in a soup kitchen would probably be fine. (Correct me if I'm wrong.)
So I'd guess that activism could generate either good PR or controversy for a GLO. Maybe the problem is that it's so hard to predict which one it will be.

kddani 10-25-2004 10:36 PM

I see activism and volunteerism as two separate things, but that's just my view.

No one can seriously be offended to giving food to people in need. But they can certainly be offended if you're walking around with a dead baby on a sign in your letters in front of planned parenthood.

Activism I guess I personally define as something that is somewhat contraversial. If you're collecting money for breast cancer research or something, only a total and complete jackass could make an issue out of it. If you're campaigning for a political campaign, that's a different story.
