 My response

		LadyGreek, no offense taken...
I knew I was interested in both groups, actually. I have a lot of friends who are Iotas and who are sweethearts, and I respected what they were doing for each other and the community, as well as the love they showed me. I became a Heart in august of 2000. As for DST, I turned around and crossed in April of 2001. I joined for the same reasons, as well as what DST stood for, as compared to other orgs. I also did this in two different cities, but I never hid this from my sorors of DST. I wanted them to accept me for who I am. Although this raises some animosity among the older sorors, my sands, immediate prophytes, and neos respect my other organization. I have time because Hearts are more active in my hometown, which I support and plan when I can, and DST is active at my school, which I plan and support for them, and for the Iota bruhs that are there. It's just like balancing work and school. It keeps me busy, but it's what I wanted to do. 12dn4DST: I was not aware that they outlawed auxillaries in '90. Iota Sweethearts are still going strong, and the itinerary for the Iota Conclave still has Heart workshops, as I am going in August, and the nationals still give out certificates, because the last ship of hearts have them. That's interesting... Librasoul: It would be nice for spellcheck on GC, since sometimes I type fast and look over typos... |

The interesting part about it Sorors is that she stands a great chance of becoming a member. I'm sure she is a beautiful spirit, but her language is unintelligible and incoherent. *smiling at Soror CrimsonTide*

As I understand it, the Iotas are the ONLY org. of the Divine 9 that currently acknowledges an affiliation with sweethearts. Apparently, the Iotas have it written into their constitution.

my apologies, i was typing faster than i was thinking. the Iotas ARE the ONLY fraternity in the D9 that have sanctioned Sweethearts.

 say what?

Have any of you heard of someone becoming a sweetheart AFTER they became a member of an NPHC organization?
	I have and I was like...whuh?  |

I know an XYZ who has been one for years (since the 80s) who became an Iota Sweetheart like in the last 3 years. |

Star, I understand your willingness to help the men of APHIA (they are quite charming :) ;) ) However, you need to also understand that by "disobeying" the rules and guidelines put forth by the NPHC you are possibly putting yourself in jeopardy of not becoming a member of DST. It could be viewed as though you have not researched the DST website and its policies (regarding hazing and membership qualifications into DST). Also a Delta on your campus (particularly older Deltas) may not be impressed with your affiliation as a "sweetheart". I suggest that you talk to other Deltas that you know well in Philly and ask them about their sentiments as a whole regarding "membership in other auxillaries" before you start discussing your involvement in A-Angels. If you don't, you may find yourself explaining to others why would you be a member of an unsanctioned group and how did that influence your wanting to become a member of DST. Peace. |

 wow

i started this thread back in '99! can you all believe that it is still active? the sweetheart question is one that still puzzles me. the whole 'helping the bruhs' thing is problematic. i have seen cooking, cleaning, servitude (passing out flyers, working the door, cleaning up). i have seen girls humiliated to get in, humiliated once they get in, and humiliation trying to separate from them after they find out the real deal.
my father is a kappa who pledged in '66. he knows nothing of pledging sweethearts. the had a chapter sweetheart who was elected by the chapter. they serenaded her, she rode on the float in the parade at homecoming, etc. it was an honor to be selected. but most of all she did not do a danggone thing to 'help' the bruhs. women to choose this affiliation either don't know what they are getting in to and try to disaffiliate so that they can pledge or get a real boyfriend, or they just want to kick it with the bruhs, or a combination of both. i never understood the latter. no one needs a t-shirt to kick it with the bruhs. i have never seen girls turned away who wanted to help the bruhs. i think it is a bad decision. far more cons than pros. mainly that national does not condone or recognize them (except for iota), some bruhs don't even recognize them, and whether or not you had to degrade yourself to get in, everyone thinks you did. lose-lose situation! |

interesting...they may join for attention or popularity. They may just be fraternity groupies...or not?

 Hi I'm Back

Thanks Miss Priss for the Concern That Was the First Thing I Checked Out!!!! In fact there are Three Deltas That Are Angels on My Campus Pluse Other Ones From The Early 90's Late 80's And None Of Them had Alpha Boyfriend. But From What Observer I Believe Once They Become A Member Of A National Greek Organization They Had To Become Inactive Members But They Still Support The Aux In Intake And Things Like That.
And As Far As The Frat Groupies I Must Admit Before Going To College And Leaning About Greek Life I Was One Of Those. (GROUPIE TO ME: JUST WANTING TO BE CONCETED TO THE FRAT LIFE) Ladies Please Don’t Ask Me Why I Was Young and They Just Amused Me and I Always Had A Strong Connection With Guys! But As I Went In Through My First Year I Did Learn The BIG Different Between The Two Aux and Sorority Greek System And Why I Would Want To Join The Greek Life And Continue to Learn From You Ladies. I did not join to be Judged, Recognizes or Popular but to encounter on a life learning experiences. And My Interest In Some Day Joining The Greek Organization Is Also A Search For A Higher College Life Experience Of Sisterhood, The Growth Of Leadership, Learning And Meeting New People. ;) |

Ohh Yeah DSTBrat Your Right About What People Think And What Happens Will Always Be A Lose -Lose Sittuation, Because Know Matter What I People Will Always Have There Perceptions No Matter What Facts Is Being Told Due To Different Stokes For Different Folks ( Different Things Happen On Different Campuses) But I Guess it Depends On The Person If There Really Concerned About What People Think.
For Example NO DISRESPECT AT ALL: Say If People Said That DST Are Skaters ( So Ludicrous Every Since 1913 in fact 1910 LOL Knowing That You Ladies Know The History)Stated By One Of Your Own DST Members And Are Only None For Partying And Doing It (sex) The Ques!!!! But U Found The Truth About Them On YOUR Campus! Would You Still Done It?? Well that’s How People See It SPEAKING FOR MY SELF!! But I Do See Where Your Coming From But I Was And Still Am A Person Who Is Not Concerned About How People See Me ALTHOUGH I Hold My Self Up With The Most Respect So That People CANT Think Any Other Way But I'm A Person That's Not Too Concerned About People False Conceptions!!! |
