Ditto to that, not seeing many clothing items being worn from those chain stores in San Francisco. We have plenty of local boutiques and vintage stores, in addition to plentiful stores downtown, and the fabulous STONESTOWN which I know Glitter is familiar with. (btw it used to be the UGLIEST outdoor shopping center, and when I was a toddler they built the new one, who puts an outdoor shopping mall that close to the beach with all the fog?).

My friend from the Reno are was discussing California with me, and we think there are three states as well, however it falls differently.
1) Northern Coast and Bay Area (including the wine & cheese country, down to Carmel, but not as far as SLO).
2) Inland (have to keep those people from the mountains up n the hills ;) however 80 will be a federal area, as will I-5 so we can still get to Tahoe and Oregon).
3) Southern Coast ( the cities, you don't want Barstow with them do you Stan?)

On different sides of the border of the states, it can be called 101, or THE 101. All the meth labs can stay in the Valley. Any coastal town with fog is in the North, and the southern beaches must have temps above 75.

RE: Hollister, the only locations within 90 miles of San Francisco are in Concord and Pleasanton...enough said.

Glitter650: I envy you in the fact you can go to SerraBowl all night, eat lumpia there, and then make a stop at In-N-Out and Krispy Kreme on the way home. We have all night donuts here in nowhereville, but it isn't the same. You also have a NATION'S for the late night feasting. So cruel!

I just have to interject that while they may have Krispy Kreme where Glitter lives, it was started in North Carolina. :D

being from Wisconsin & Illinois and living in Claifornia, I have to say I have grown to love the place, despite the high cost of living.

However, there are a few annoying things Californians do:
At first I was put off by the people who would ask if I was from "out east", or the "east coast" because, as far as I am concerned, Chicago is the midwest, not "out east". Also, the Californians have this nasty habbit of calling the place my entire family lives a "fly over state". Excuse me?! You know you always have layovers in O'Hare.
Also, there is a bit of snobbishness about some people from California, like they are better than you for being born in San Deigo, and can say that 50 degrees is "cold".

That being said, the geography and weather here is wonderful. I really do like it!

hollister isn't slimy, there isn't anything there. it's just hills and fields. not great. i like some of the hollister cothes, except they are made for size 0 and -2. lol.

I was thinking after I posted my comment, that the last time I was in Hollister was in 1988, and it could of gotten better since the last time I was there. I totally agree though on the clothes. But they are better then Abercrombie and Fitch and there 0 and -2 sizes. LOL...I have one shirt from Hollister that if I wear it, You can def. see everything that was created on me. LOL....great to work out in and to get attention in...

I totally agree, with that statement. Lord, if the kids at the high school could just take a look at themselves 4 to 8 years from now, they would be like OMG what was I thinking wearing that. My 16 yr. odl sister is falling into that category. She needs to knock it off.

About the whole fly over statement, its okay people back in here in Chicago, say I have an accent. I never understood, until I heard myself, after a recording. I have this midwest twang, and this california blonde accent. (BTW the cali blonde accent are my mothers words. NOT Mine).

I know that Hollister is somewhere near Napa. My aunt and her daughter both shop there and live in someplace called Vallejo. I dont know I have been to Vallejo, only 4 times in my life and each time I wish I never had to go there in the first place. Sorry for anyone who lives there.

My favorite thing to talk about with people from Chicago is the fact that you can pretty much take one interstate and drive the whole state. People back here find that so hard to belive, I try to explain to them its like if you got on I55, and could travel the whole state of Illinois. It would be the same, they just dont get it.

LMAO!!! I'm actually from Vallejo! I don't go back there very often, only to visit my family. the only thing they have going is the six flags marine world for tourists and other school's field trips. and vallejo is right under napa valley, so it's close to all the booze. hehe. i don't really like vallejo because it's kinda ghetto. the only thing i like about it is that my familia is there and it's where i grew up, so i remember all of my old stomping grounds. *memories*sigh*

hollister the city is actually more down south. it's east of monterey. like an hour or so. (i live in monterey now.)

i think the hollister stores that your aunt and cousin shop at are at the malls in pleasonton and concord, ca. (i know where all the malls are in the areas where i lived/live :) )

I admit people from Cali do have a bit of snobbiness about where they are from...and I know I personally am guilty of it...I don't look down on people not from Cali... I'm just very happy here and will argue it's the best place on earth to live ! I do say that I call it the flyover sometimes though.. but I don't visit there that often... I don't have any family and only a few friends there to visit.. so most of the time I do fly over it.. although most of the time I call it the middle... however.... I've had people ask me if I'm gay just because I live in San Francisco... and some people I've met are suprised I can't surf :rolleyes:

Just wanted to make sure you know that not ALL Californians are like this (I was born and raised in SoCal, but I enjoy other areas of the country a lot....why else would I go somewhere for the snow in the winter for school? :) )

Re: "Out East", I think that happens with the "older" native Californians (my step-dad, for one). Both of my parents were born and raised in the midwest, so I have a healthy respect, and large amount of knowledge, about the benefits of being a midwesterner and lifestyle of those living in the midwest (regarding manners, morals, and beliefs about life)

I never call any state a fly over state, because I've actually driven through quite a few of those states, and they have beauty that isn't really seen here in CA.

And I don't think I'm better than anyone for being born in San Diego county....just lucky! :D

Besides the weather and geography, the best thing California has that the rest of the country doesn't... IN-N-OUT! Ahhh, by far the best hamburgers in the world.

Just another example that God loves Californians more than anyone else.


Stan, I right there with you about "The O.C."...please can we alert the country that Orange County is nothing like that. Sure, they like to think of themselves as this utopian upper-crust community but please, anyone who has visited Anaheim or Norwalk will tell you it's not all BMWs and beachfront mansions...

First of all, I grew up in Orange County my whole life...There ARE parts of orange county that are like that show, mostly rancho, coto and newport...They have houses like that and they actually try to somewhat model the show after the area and the companies and things going on in orange county..i.e. the newport company on the show = the irvine company in real life, this company dominates most of orange county property and development...there are most examples but i dont want to go on for hours about it...

There's south orange county and north orange county...south is rich, north is middle class...depends on where u grew up...and some of us DO call it "the OC"

Oh, and my family is from southie, so sorry about the remark...

Oh, and socal ppl are superior to all ppl in america, look at fashion across the country, everyone is 2 years behind socal....

i was just making light of the ever-present, seemingly frequent natural disasters of cali. it's a jokey-joke.

people, this is not an open-ended quiz. stop making up your own answers. although, i'm sure cali's got delicious hamburgers at a place called In-n-Out and exquisite style in THE O.C., i don't care. i don't care that it's warm in socal.

it seems like socal doesn't even consider itself part of california. so what are you stressin about? you're obviously cleaner (from bathing more than once annually,) smarter (from book learnin and the tv,) and purdy-er (from THE OC, subtle socal style, and moisturizing.) don't you fret none over my awful, awful quiz.

So cal has good looking people, but it's just a giant craphole unless you're lucky enough to live in an area with houses worth at least 1 million. Northern California is beautiful but the people look strange and dress in the ugliest things ever.

As for clothing, Hollister is crappy imitation A&F wear targeted to younger teens (not even older ones).
