I am SO excited for fall recruitment! We are reworking out recruitment ways and such.. :D
I can't wait to read all the GC stories!!! :) :) |
i'm rushing
I will be going through recruitment at UC-San Diego, the sororities here are:
Alpha Chi Omega Alpha Epsilon Phi Chi Omega Delta Delta Delta Delta Gamma Kappa Alpha Theta Kappa Kappa Gamma Pi Beta Phi Sigma Kappa I am very excited to be going through recruitment, but extremely nervous as well, mainly because I will be a second year and the fact that I went through rush last year as well, but didn't recieve a bid. I am not too sure how this will look to some of the chapters, even though I have met some really wonderful girls in different houses this year. Any advice on how to better deal with this type of situation would be greatly appriciated! Thanks! |
yall know i will be going through...been waitin long and hard for this...i am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO exited...

I just joined this thread, and am pretty nervous about it! I guess I felt weird because I'm not in a sorority (but I am rushing in the fall!!). I have seen all the wonderful advice you have given to the girls going through rush and that has inspired me to join and ask all of you a few questions.
I go to school in Indiana and I am rushing this fall. I am pretty nervous because I have never gone through recruitment. I am still considered a sophomore next year credit wise, but it will be my third year at school. I wanted to rush since freshmen year, but none of the girls I was friends with decided to go through it. We go in groups with your dorm (or in a group of off-campus girls if you do not live in the dorms) and only 2 girls in my hall were rushing. I really wish I had gone through with it at the time. I have had a great college experience, but I do feel like I am missing out on something. I always expected myself to join a sorority when I came to college. I have a lot of friends in many of the different groups and I can see how much they love it! Besides some basic stuff I haven't asked my friends too many questions about rush. Now that I am home for the summer and it is quickly approaching, I feel like I have so many questions... but I have heard that they can't talk to me about rush after a certain point... I am not too sure of the rules but I definitely do not want to get them in trouble!! Hopefully some of you wonderful girls can help me out! At our school we do not have houses (maybe some brothel rule?? I'm not too sure) and I have heard of older girls rushing so I am not sure that is much of an issue... but I am concerned about it a little bit. Also, I do not know how common letters of reccomendation are at our school or how to go about getting them. Basically ANY advice you girls have for me would greatly help!! Our rush is the second week in September (I think!) and we have a fairly large number of sororities. I cannot believe I wrote so much! Anyway, good luck with rush to all of you !! ETA: I did not mention the exact school or sororities just to keep things vague and also because I read on another thread that I shouldn't.... which is probably a good idea. I definitely wouldn't want to get anyone in trouble for something they said to help me out with! |

Also, I'd like to get on that list of willing alumnae!! |
All of your advice has been so helpful! I have talked to my friends and they have really helped me out with some of the answers. I just didn't know whether or not they could talk about it since the school year is starting (and I would have hated to get them in trouble just to help me!!!)
Hearing your suggestions and stories has been great though and I really appreciate it! Once rush starts I probably will not talk about it until afterwards. I wouldn't say anything bad about any of the groups, because I know girls in almost all of them and they are all great, but I would hate for something to be taken wrong or any number of things. So I will keep things vague but I really appreciate the advice. I have noticed that although there are some differences, the majority of people have the same experience and advice about their rush :) |

if you are able to do so discreetly, after you exit each party, and are out of eyesight, pull a small notepad out of your purse and write down what group you just visited, what the theme of their party was, and your impressions. this can be very helpful if you are going thru recruitment in a large greek system. the information you write down should be for your eyes only, but it can help keep things from becoming confusing.
you also might like to come up with a few questions to keep the conversation going, in case your hostess is nervous, inexperienced or just runs out of things to say. it can happen! best of luck to you. please let us know after it is all over. |
so i'm a bad person....
Not like he reads GC (yet)...but when I posted about my cousins, I TOTALLY forgot to mention that my awesome nephew is rushing (for sure) at the University of Michigan. He's an AEPi and ZBT legacy (his dad is an AEPi, his grandpa (my father) is a ZBT). Both have houses at U of M; but everyone wants him to go where he's happy in the end. Since no one in my immediate family has ever joined the same fraternity/sorority (we respresent 2 NIC and 3 NPC) it wouldn't be the first time.
So make that 4 members of my family rushing at the same time...whew! |
I'm planning to rush in the Fall too! I go to a small liberal arts school in PA and we have deferred rush so girls go through it during their sophomore years, which apparently is somewhat common of the PA liberal arts schools.
We have three NPC sororities and one local. Since rush is so late, I've gotten to know a few girls in each sorority so I have a basic understanding of each, but I still should have an open mind while going through recruitment since I haven't met all of the sisters yet. |
I'll be rushing in the fall at FSU.
I'll be a sophomore, so I'm a little nervous.... but very excited. I just want it to hurry up and get here! |

I'm 99% sure that my best friend from high school will be rushing at Jacksonville State University (where I go to school) this fall. When she decides for absolute certain, I'm going to ask her to start a GC account. :)

I was wondering about how to get letters of recommendation. I looked through some of the posts about rush to try to find something, but there are so many! So, I apologize if this has already been answered, but how would I go about getting them. I have friends who are current members at other schools who will write them for me, but no alumni members. No one in my family has ever gone greek, and I don't think I know anyone in my community who is an alumni of a greek organization. Someone posted a reply about going to the national panhellenic website, but I did not see any listings around where I lived for alumni.
Also, is it "ok" to ask people you do not know for a rec? I would feel a little weird asking someone who didn't know me to write such a letter. Then again, if I had to depend on only the people I know I wouldn't have any of these letters of reccomendation. I'm sure there are girls who are in my exact situation, so how would they go about getting these letters? Any help would definitely be great and I really appreciate it! |
