Those and "I am a P..." |
We have one ritual song that hasn't changed per se. The original words are all there, but the song had two verses added to it.
We also have a song called Hairy Chested Men that at one time was Hairy Chested TKEs. We don't know which one is the original version, but now we sing Hairy Chested Men. |
We have our official song that we sing, "You've Got A Friend" by Carolyn King. We also have other songs...but they're dirty :p
|
We have a songbook with several dozen old songs mostly written in the late 1800's and about ten that are in general use at all chapters today. The most universal would be "The DEKE Marching Song", followed by "A Son of a DKE", "The Red Hot Spot of DKE". "What Kind of a Man", etc, etc. Many of these seem rather old fashioned but they do seem to work well and retain their popularity among the brotherhood when a bunch of the guys get together and lift a cool one or three.

We have the chorale that we learn, it hasn't been changed since it was first presented and its always sung at important ritual type stuff...sooo pretty!

why I'm interested
you asked why I'm interested. i've got a friend in Alpha PHi Omega, and they're talking about changing their official song, and I was wondering what other GLO's had for songs, and if they had ever been changed. thanx for your help
|
We have songs that have been around for ages, as well as songs that are in our ritual. They publish the old Chi O traditional songs in a songbook you can order from National.
I don't think you could go through 4 years of Chi Omega and miss Shades. |
Yo Ho
Well, I've just gotta say, speaking of GLO songs, i love Yo Ho....the Phi Kapps here sing it, and I've heard that other GLO's sing it too, but it's great. The first time we went out as NM's, the Phi Kapp guys sang it to us and I about wet myself laughing so hard........
As far as DG songs?? well, ritual-only songs aside, I'd say that every DG knows Mmm my sisters and Dreamgirl and Out of my Window.....other than that, I don't really know..... |
OMG, I'd forgotten all about the Phi Kapp "Yo Ho" song. My freshman yr I went to their house party and they sang it on the bus all the way to house party. An hour of that and it's engrained in your brain for life.

We sure do! The official Toast Song of Alpha Phi Omega, sung during every regular and exclusive APO event.

The "issues" with the Toast Song are with the use of the terms "Men" and "Brothers". Attempts to change these have not succeeded. Few of the proposed changes I like ("Men of" to "True to"), others I do NOT like. Our Toast Song is usually sung at the end of ALL APO events (rituals, meetings, fellowship events, service projects, etc.). Its great to be in a huge gathering of Brothers who form the fellowship circle and sing the song. |
