Oh yeah I just realized that I haven't really described the tats I do have. So for anyone whos interested tat #1 is a japanese style tat symbolizing the yin and yang principals in the form of a delicate, feminine flower with an strong, masculine dragon curved around it in a figure eight. The center of the flower is a yin yang with rays of light coming out of it. this is on my lower back.
tat #2 is a japanese lucky cat like you see in sushi bars it is on my left inner ankel. tat #3 is three norse runes bound together in a straight line like this |/ |/ | |\ |\ | |> | well.. sorta and it means sucess through adversity, communication, and joy. this one is in the center of my back about where my bra clasp would be. |
The tattoo on top of my foot still looks like it did 10 years ago. When we went to get our tattoos, we actually wanted to get something on our big toe, and the guy refused to do it because he said it wouldn't hold up. He actually suggested that we get it on our feet instead. It hurts soooooooo bad though because of all of the little bones.

Question
Have any of you ever heard of an unofficial (or maybe even official) rule of not being allowed to have ADPi letters, or the crest tattooed on your body? Someone told me this once, and I'm just wondering if it is true. I was/am thinking a/b getting the crest tattooed on the middle of my back.
What are ya'lls opinions? |
In response to the question about crest tattoos--
Disclaimer: I'm not telling anyone what to do; rather I am stating my own opinions.
I don't remember seeing any rule forbidding a member from tattooing, but I personally advise against it. I just think there are more effective ways to represent ADPi than by tattooing the letters or the crest on your body. I'm not condemning anyone who has a tattoo, or wants one. But I'd like to advise our members that as sorority women, we want to project an image of class and propiety. I don't feel our letters, crest, etc., belong permanently inked on our bodies, in keeping with this ladylike stature. Again, that's my personal opinion, and not intended to start a war on tattooing. |
So I guess the big lion I got tatooed on my right shoulder was a little tacky and perhaps I should not have gotten ADP on my forehead? ;)

I'v never been interested in the crest or letters, I like violets because they are one of our symbols but discreet, you could either be say "hey i'm an Adpi!" or "Hey I think violets are pretty nifty" which ever you prefer.

A couple of sisters from my chapter got violets on their stomach and a few have lions on their back and stomachs!!

It is so weird when you come across a section like this when are thinking about it.
Well I have always loved the color purple (it is practically a fetish, you should see my dormroom and bed room at home) And since i was a junior in high school i have wanted a small purple flower on my ankle. (much like a violet, strange coinsidence? I think not. It is fate!! hehe) I haven't been able to decide what ankle and that has been my excuse this whole time for why i haven't done it. Ok... I am just freaked out about the whole needle thing, and people telling me that the ankle bone hurts more than other places doesn't help any. Well, we'll see if this ever happens...;) ! ~lys~ |
I did it, today I got my ADPi tat!!! i'm so excited!! it's actually very stuble I got our open motto in japanese kanji surrounded by woodland violets, it's really pretty, the artist desinged it for me, it's right in the center of my back between the shoulderblades. let me tell you though for anyone considering that spot it killed! I gritted my way through the outlining but when he started in on the coloring I started bawling it hurt sooo bad, and this is a girl who's sat through three tattoos. I don't think i'll ever get something on my neck because the stuff that was real close to that aera felt like fire! Anyways I love it, but it was defiantely the most painful of them all, I don't think i'll be getting anymore for awhile if ever.
Lyssard, I do have the inner ankel done and compared to my back it was nothing, and if you want something small it's not gonna take the artist more than like 10 min to do it. Unless you have a very low pain threshold you'll be fine. The ankel is kinda neat cuz you can watch the guy do it and for some reason that makes it eaiser, I like to see that needle coming at me instead of having some unseen force inflict pain on me, but thats just me. |
Adpiucf, maybe you could write your Adelphean article on all the interesting ADPi tattoos that sisters have! :p
|
Sorry to bring up an older thread (I found it very interesting...)
A few of my chapter sisters have been talking of getting ADPi related tattoos lately and I have a question.... We were told to NEVER EVER drink (or do anything inappropriate)while we were wearing letters on a shirt, bracelet, tote, etc..., but with a tattoo of our greek letters, wouldn't you always be drinking in your letters? I don't know, maybe I'm thinking into this too much.... I took it to be more of a "it'll disrespect our founders" than a "you'll make us look bad" thing. Anyone else agree or is it just me?? I do like the violets or paw print ideas though! |
