I think ADP would be great at Ole Miss one day again. One of your sisters is an adviser for AOP here at Ole Miss with me. She is so helpful with my chapter. She has told me that she would love to see ADP back at Ole Miss. She helps out AOP because she was friends with some while she was in school and when ADP left she was in grad school and so she started helping us out.

Ah, the stuff of dreams!! I also would just LOVE to see our Alpha (Beta, and Gamma) chapters back!!

I'd love to see us colonize at Drew University, Farleigh Dickenson, Stockton, or Glassboro (I know that one now goes by another name, but I can't remember it for the life of me!) - ALL in NEW JERSEY! In fact, I'd do as much as possible to help in those efforts. I think there would be a lot of alumnae support, eventhough we don't have super-active alumnae associations here. I know the Phila area has a couple that could lend a hand in the South Jersey area. I've got lots of women in the Morris County (Drew, FDU area) who would LOVE to help!!

I'd be concerned about colonizing at Rutgers. I'm not trying to inflame any GC'ers who are actives or alumni from RU!! As a lifelong NJ resident, and BIG greek supporter, I am concerned about the things I read about in the papers - and see on the news - concerning greek life at RU.

Now, another *wish* would be to re-colonize some of the closed NY chapters - like Syracuse, Queens College (NYC) and Hunter. I think the last two banned greek systems, so I guess I better FU-GEDABOUDIT!!! ;)

What Leslie said! I'd especially love to see a chapter at Stockton since I went there for a year and really liked it... I'd do as much as possible to help out too!

(btw, Glassboro is now Rowan)

Ladies, please excuse my forum crash. Queens College and Hunter College are public institutions, and never banned greeks. In my opinion, Hunter is not viable. It is in a neighborhood that is way to expensive to buy a house ($5+ million for 20 bed capacity), and it is a mostly commuter campus. Queens College is also a commuter campus, but it is not very viable either. It could happen, but I wouldn't vest much hope.

The best opportunity for NPC expansion, in the City of New York, is at NYU. Their sorority system completely dissapeared by the early 80s. Then 2 NPC sororities returned, and 5 locals were formed. One of locals affiliated with AST. The school seems to have lax rules for expansion, but I would check with their PanHel first. You might also want to see if you can persuade one of the locals to go ADPi. Housing is available, in the form of floors of 11 or 13 beds from the school.

If your Alumnae Associations are strong and committed, well, you can start up a dozen colonies, and they'll all be successful!

When Eta Beta was colonized, alumnae came from all over Western PA to make that commitment - and I'm talking maybe as many as 5-6 different Alumnae Associations! I was making tea sandwiches in my sleep - but we did it! We put a chapter of Alpha Delta Pi on a campus that "couldn't hold" another sorority!

So, as you decide where you'd like to see a colony, think really, really hard about how much time you're willing to give up to see this through. You must be willing to lay the foundation, start the colony, see it through Initiation, and BE THERE for them for at least three to five years.

And if y'all think I'm being hard, frankly, I think I'm listing the barest of minimums!

Play on through...

Well with that being said I think any school in Ohio could start up a colony with all of the strong alumnae groups throughout the state!! We have the Akron Area, Canton-Massillon, Gem City, Greater Cincinnatti, Greater Cleveland, Greater Columbus, Greater Dayton, Miami Valley, North Central, Springfield, and Youngstown-Salem Alumnae Associations. Those cover the entire state with the ability for someone to get involved with a group that is at most an hour away. So it would also cover almost all, if not all, colleges and universities. The support would be there!

somebody refresh my memory.. Why did our Alpha Chapter close in the first place? was it just that Weaslyan dismissed all GLOs?

From what I have heard it was because the greek system became too competitive there and in turn the university closed down the greek system. When women would try to commit suicide for not geting into the sorority they want... it is just bad...

ADPiZXalum 03-12-2004 09:58 PM

I would love to see the chapter at Southern Methodist University recolonized. Texas A&M Kingsville also used to have a chapter. I think Texas currently has the most open chapters of ADPi though. (Baylor, Texas, TAMU, Tech, UNT, TCU, Southwestern, Texas State, Lamar, and Sam Houston) It'd be cool if there was a chapter at UTSA. There is a really strong alum association there, and that'd be cool. Anyway, just my random thoughts!!

I've been reading a lot of Maeve Binchy lately (stories of Ireland), and someone is always calling someone nasty "weaselly". I saw this and just loved it - but then again, I have a very weird sense of humor...

Another vote for SMU, btw.

adpiucf 03-22-2004 02:18 PM

I'd love to see SMU come back, but I think they closed too recently for the university or the sorority to consider re-installation.

More ADPi chapters in Florida would do well. We have very strong alumnae and very strong collegiate chapters. I don't think chapters would do well at schools like FIU or FAU, which are more commuter-based campuses, but I think U of Miami could have potential if we are able to form a Miami ADPi Alum Assoc (currently, the closest AA is Ft. Lauderdale). I know a handful of women from my chapter who now live in Miami, so I'm reasonably sure there could be enough interest.

Info. on Wesleyan from a Former Maconite

Having lived in Macon, GA for 10 years (I know that doesn't make me a "Magnolia," but nevertheless...) I can tell you that Wesleyan College places great emphasis on "class" loyalty, i.e., Freshman, Sophomore, etc. The classes compete & select colors, mascots, etc. Here's a link to their website re: Student Life.

P.S. I love the words on the first page of their website:

Can their be deep thought in the Deep South? We think so.
Student Life @ Wesleyan

Thank you so much for the link. I swear I am in complete and utter awe knowing that the school that housed our Alpha Chapter is still around.

Anyone up for a road trip to Macon? OMG.
