I was in Iowa this past Summer. What I enjoyed most about Iowa was the complete, and total lack of mosquitos. Not one.;)

And you got to go to Ames. That had to be pretty enjoyable, right? Because it's the coolest. :p

I stayed at the Gateway Center. Its a very generic looking hotel, nice, but it doesn't seem exceptional. It had the best service of any hotel that I've stayed at, and I stay at a lot of nice hotels.

Also, the filet mignon at the hotel's restaurant was outstanding. The best filet mignon that I've had. A few months later, I was talking with a friend of mine, who lives in New Jersey, and who has been exposed to many of the finer things in life. He told me that he just had the best filte mignon ever. I asked, "where?" He told me that we was in Ames for a wedding, and stayed at the Gateway Center, and had the steak in the hotel restaurant. It was like déjà vu all over again.

So Ames might boring enough for the college kids to call it "Lames," but it is a nice little town with a great hotel that has great steak.

It used to be a Holiday Inn, hence the genericness in appearance.

Now if you really want a good steak, go to Rubes in Montour--about an hour east of Ames on 30. They hand select their cattle at the local meat auction and then butcher and process it themselves. It's an open-flame, grill-your-own kind of place, not very fancy, but the filet mignon literally melts in your mouth. And I grew up on a cattle farm so I know my beef!

I loved Ames as a college student. Not too big, not too small. You could get anywhere in that town in 20 minutes or less. I think it also helped that the Kappa house was the closest one to campus and the closest one to the bars! ;)

Actually there is Paramount Canada's Wonderland just outside of Toronto.

I personally wouldn't live in Texas after watching texas chain saw massacure... or (isn't it KY ?) after seeing deliverance... OH YEAH DETROIT... never EVER would I live in Detroit.... (sorry if there are those who love it) but it seemed like the saddest city when I was there... I would MAYBE CONSIDER living other places in Michigan.. but actual Detroit.. couldn't pay me enough to live there...

LOL I think Pi Kapps actually beats Kappas as far as closest location to bars and campus ;)

Yeah, but what can I say, Iowa is home. Of course people want to live in Iowa, we grow a lot of potatoes :rolleyes:
