As for your question . .

How far is University of the Pacific from San Franciso Guys? they used to have good fraternity parties, maybe we could direct him there.

Honestly I am sure that a fraternity would gladly THROW a party knowing that a writer of a well-known(it is well-known isn'it?)
magazine wanted to attend.

If I were writing an article specifically about fraternity parties i would target a school with a big greek system, find out the contact information of their president, and juat make arrangements to attend.

Is your magazine willing to foot part of the bill?

If I were confined geographically for some reason and the potential fraternity party was just an extra, I would find out all the local college within two hours of my location that had greek life and contact their presidents to make arrangements.

A simple google search . . . Colleges near San Francisco and then going to the College web site should get you some needed information.

I apologize for some of the responders, you just got unlucky and received answers from people that think fun is like church socials, Chucky Cheese, and plastic slides at McDonalds.

There are plenty pof large parties out there and someone always seems to want to take their clothes off . . . even if its the person you would least like to see naked and will horrifying after images for the rest of your lives.

and how would that chapter explain to their hq about how pictures of a party they threw wound up in a magazine? i'm sure yours wouldn't be too thrilled about it. ours weren't thrilled when msnbc wanted to come interview chapters on my campus about greek life, so i know there would be serious consequences if we even entertained the idea of throwing a party where it just might happen that girls would get drunk enough and dance topless on tables and then have those pictures end up on a magazine. yeah, good luck trying to find a chapter that is willing to participate in that.

yeah, and the chapters should get in trouble for it.

Google the schools in the area and try to get links to the individual fraternity chapters at each school. Most will provide an email address or contact info for an officer of the fraternity. That is probably your best bet. Explain to the officer you want to show Europeans an American fraternity party. Be sure you include your credentials.

They may have stipulations like you can't show their actual letters but are allowed to take as many pictures as possible. I think that would serve your purposes. I mean, it sounds like you're just looking to photo a fraternity party, not necessarily a XYZ chapter party.

I'm with James. People are always willing to get crazy and naked. Especially if there is a photographer around.

ETA: He wants to film a FRATERNITY party, not a SORORITY event.

lol GGW threw a joint party with two chapters here (not us, we're not cool enough :rolleyes: ) and what you DIDN'T see on the vids was much better

honestly though, we used to have to go to programs put on jointly by the risk management people from the four hq's in the town where my school was. by knowing those guys, if they ever heard of one of their chapters doing something like that, i can guarantee there would be some seirous consequences.

Why? You could actually throw a party like that within the law.

I don't suggest going to Stanford... I grew up in Palo Alto and some of my first "college party" experiences happened there... it is not the type of greek system this dude is looking for... TRUST ME greek system at stanford is *fairly* small... Berkely is your best bet... (and is closer to San Francisco in good traffic) They acutally have nice big houses and such to have parties and everything... and larger chapters. To answer James' question.. UOP is about 2 hours from San Francisco in Stockton.. (AKA the only semi -big city in cowtown) I don't know much about the greek system there... but in general most Northern Cali schools don't have large great traditional greek systems... (especially the schools in the San Fran. Bay area)

So as long as something isn't illegal, it's completely acceptable within your fraternity's standards? Somehow I doubt that.

I think thats just kind of the way things work with fraternities and especially their parties. But if you think about it, the parties are rarely legal. For it to be completley legal, depending on the area where the house is, you might need permission from local law enforcement as far as noise violations and stuff, if alcohol is being served IDs need to be checked at the door and wristbands need to be handed out so no underage drinking happens. Also, things like fire codes and other risk managment issues are rarely considered.


Now I'm not gonna lie, I have been to a couple fraternity parties as a minor where they tried to do this stuff...and because I was friends with fraternity members of course I got a wristband and drank.

So you see, thats where the fine line about whats acceptable and whats legal is drawn.
