Vodka is literally not my cup of tea. :) Now, ask me about the differences between Lady Grey, Earl Grey, and Greyer..I could tell you.
:)
Thanks for the info!

How is punishing the innocent chapters supposed to help the situation? It's just going to lead to a decline in membership, and an attitude of "If I'm doing the time, I may as well do the crime

Raise your hand if you think that no one in the innocent chapters ever drove drunk? I'd bet that 99.99% of the chapters have members who have driven drunk and not gotten caught.

What else disturbs me is this thread seems to have more posts on the TYPE of alcohol rather than the seriousness of the situation and the devatation that could easily have occurred.

Yes, the Big Dance was cancelled, but it could easily have been the BIG FUNERAL(S).

Checking in at off-campus parties

The President of Panhel is one of my sisters, btw...anyway, the "checking in at off-campus parties" is not what you are all thinking. I'm assuming that they are referring to something that our chapter already does-when the house is having a party at an off-campus venue (and sororities on our campus always have parties downtown, never at the house), we have to sign in at the house before we get on the bus, and our dates do as well. Then we sign out when we get back. The Standards and Ethics and Social Chairs then know who has gone and made it back. That way if someone hasn't, they can call and check on where they are and make sure that they get back safe.

vandy, not to sound flipint, that sounds like a Hell Of A Great Idea!:)

Just because We as Greeks Get The Most Notority with the news media does not mean that We are not really trying to get a handle on this type of situation!:)

Hell, if most know what it cost for Risk Management Insurance, maybe they would think again!

Excellent Point!

Where are people's priorities these days???

Miss Sherrill's parents forked out the dough to buy her a Lexus SUV but didn't see fit to get the poor girl braces to correct that terrible overbite

Update: Sorority Parties w/ Alcohol Canceled

The Hustler has a Feb. 6 article saying that the Vanderbilt administration has banned sorority parties with alcohol until after Spring Break (March 15).

http://www.vanderbilthustler.com/vne.../40231d04b2779

According to the article five of the 10 NPC sororities are currently being investigated "by their national headquarters, as well as by either Vanderbilt University or the Panhellenic Council."

A VU staff member is quoted on the subject of the culture of alcohol. She's against it. Members of a couple of sororities are quoted -- not happy about losing their parties, especially if they are in chapters that didn't break rules.

Apparently after Spring Break sororities without alcohol problems / infractions will be able to have parties again. Not clear about what might happen with others.
Guess there will be further developments.

What about sororities attending fraternity parties or going underground at unofficial off campus parties?
