Right now it is a balmy 27 degrees. It snowed last night - and I haven't been dug out, so I get to telecommute today.

The cold air comes back tomorrow. It's supposed to go down to 5 above tomorrow night, 3 above Wednesday night, and 5 BELOW Thursday night.

I think I'll stay inside.

It is so cold outside. BRRRRR Inside feels like a sauna. We really can't control the heat here.

Don't worry, it will be a balmy 42 degrees outside today. :p

Tomorrow the deep freeze resumes. :(

Still in the 70s in Southern California. Lots of sun, albeit the temperature doesn't start out that warm.

I find it mildly disturbing that it's warmer here (2 miles from Lake Michigan) than it was at my last school (25 miles from the Mississippi) but I'm not complaining. It's a balmy 25 or so here at good ol' MU, and it's not even too windy!

CanadianTeke 01-14-2004 12:36 AM

it warmed up here to a nice -2, but it is supposed to be -40 again tomorrow.

I don't know how you can even stand to get out of bed!

Do y'all actually go outside when it's -40° outside?! I couldn't imagine that you would have any clothing for weather like that besides the Eskimo-type suits that you see the scientists in Antartica wear on the Discovery Channel.

Lady Pi Phi 01-14-2004 10:29 AM

-32 with the windchill today. It's freaking cold. I almost stayed home from work, but I need money so came in.

It's not that bad if you have a warm coat and gloves, and a hat and a scarf, and boots. You have to bundel up but not like we're in Antarctica!

GeekyPenguin 01-14-2004 10:40 AM

It is definitely possible to go outside when it's that cold out - last winter when it got down to the negative 20s, I'd wear a camisole, a long-sleeved tee, a big wooly sweater, a fleece jacket, and my parka. It's not too bad, just make sure to keep most of your face covered so it doesn't get all gross and red.

Actually, I feel like once it gets below zero, I've never really noticed a difference between -10 and -40. It's all just way too cold for me. :)

AGDee 01-14-2004 12:19 PM

When I was in school (many years ago) we had about a week of super deep freeze weather and they said that one day the wind chill was -70. I was all bundled up and walked to class. When I got to class, one of my eyes was really irritated. It turned out that my contact lens had frozen and cracked in my eye. Ouch! That's just too darn cold.

Heard a weather man saying this morning that at -44, any exposed skin will be frost bitten within 5 seconds! Yuk!

I hate the cold more and more the older I get.. and we're getting inches and inches of snow today too. I am dreading the drive home from work.

At around -40 exposed skin can get frostbite in around 5 mins. not 5 sec but the usual range is around 5 to 10 min.

It was so cold today that they apparently cancelled evening classes at U of T. I was supposed to go to a meeting tonight as well, and that was cancelled due to the bad weather.

Peaches-n-Cream 01-14-2004 11:49 PM

It is the coldest it has been in NYC since 1944. I am afraid to go out now because I don't want my contacts to freeze and crack.
