We're a smaller house so Panhel made an allowance-even with the new girls we are not up to total necessarily.

Very simplistic explanation!
During Bid Matching, each PNM who can be matched with her first choice is done on the first round, then a second round is conducted for the second choices. Sometimes, this overlaps. Once a chapter reaches Quota, the very excited alumnae are permitted to announce, "Quota!" and then they keep tabs on the others on their list (actually, you keep tabs on where everyone is going).
So, every PNM who can be matched is matched until each chapter reaches Quota (in theory). But, Jane, Jenny, Jill, and Jessica have suicided ADPi and you've reached Quota. TECHNICALLY, the chapter can extend up to 10% over Quota in such a case - but as this rule is made for the good of the greek system as a whole, sometimes a chapter will take a higher percentage rather than have Jill & Jessica realize that they were second stringers. Does that make sense? Of course, then you have the snap bids up to Total, too - so say Total is 100, Quota is 20, but your chapter has only 50 members. Then, you can take Quota (20), Quota Plus (2 more), then Snap Bid 28 more! And it's amazing how poorly I did in math, but I can do Quota/Total in my sleep...! |

I will say that, when hand bid matching is done, the first round is rather territorial, but by the time for Quota Plus, a wonderfully Panhellenic spirit fills the room! For the longest time, all the ADPi Advisors who did bid matching were redheads. Once, the DZ Advisor asked if being a redhead was a prerequisite for being an ADPi advisor! Of course, we told her yes. ;) |
