God was often used when talking to another dude, However certain folks of the 5% nation found it disrespectful and it was dropped (at least in my little section of Brooklyn) :( I know my sister is tried of me calling her about these slang terms, without her I'd be clueless:confused: |

I'm also from the DC area...we used to say all that stuff in high school. Glad to see it's still around. Here's my contribution (it was touched on earlier)... Minute - pretty much any length of time. "I haven't seen him in a minute" and I have one friend who will use exponential numbers of "minutes" to denote a long period of time (months, years, etc.). "She hasn't been around here in a minute minute minute" |
I, too, am among the ranks of those from the DC area.
Let the record show that those of us in NorthWest say AREA, lol. No but seriously, the term urrea originated in PG County. FOlks from DC just said we're from DC. One of my prophytes is from Philly, and he introduced me to the wonderful world of jawns, bwahns, and smuttin'. I picked up "Let me find out" in high school. Like "Let me find out Madonna kissed Britney Spears!" In college, I picked up "Bus' how" from my New York friends. It's sort like "Check this out"......"Bus' how I got robbed on the way to school!" |

Slang changes with every generation...
From the west coast, back in my day... Rest--the implied meaning: usually with the movement of the hand and snapping the fingers... "You know you have to rest when you with the best..." Endz--those folks who live at the bottom, just skrait ghetto Air high--means when the truck's or car's hydraulics get the car in the air... Jazzed--when someone's a little high and a little drunk Faded--when they are way passed high and drunk Rollers--the cops--'cuz they roll all over you--especially up in La Mesa, California... Onetime--LAPD... Tubular--like totally... Dude... May SoCal slangs also come from the mixed cultures like Spanish and English... Cholla--a chick Chicka--a chick who's your friend. Bolada--a girl who's a flirt, etc... In junior high, I got called that all the time... Then we'd all curse in Spanish... But I will leave that alone |

(MEMPHIS SLANG) "YOU SLAW"-means you ain't sh** 4. "kick it" (my fav I use alot)-means sex or chillin' 5. "metrosexual"- a guy whose not gay but has feminine ways 6. "hecks naw"- means oh no |

Now I need to quietly exit this forum cause I still say "that's fresh" when I'm excited about something. I am completely out of it when it comes to slang. |
A cousin has recently gotten in the habit of saying
"that's what's up" as an answer to almost anything. Me: The weather sure is nice today. Him: Yeah, it is...that's what's up! Me: I like your shirt. Him: Thanks cuz....that's what's up! Me: We're having chicken for dinner tonight Him: on yeah? That's what's up! He will also follow it up with "no doubt", or sometimes just "no doubt...that's what's up" I wanna smack him up side his head when he does that! It's annoying as heck. he's in the military, so I'm not sure where it came from. |

"slide"--fight
"getting fly"--copping an attitude things i've noticed... depending on how you stretch out the word "minute" determines the length. ex. : "i aint seen her in a m i n u t e" would be a long time "let me holla at you for a minute " would be a short period of time i've also noticed that slang for the act of sex sounds so dang violent and un-romantic: cut, knock it off, get in the guts, bust it open, hit that... |
