homey2: nothin'! yo, whaddup witchu god

son and god- it seemed like everybody would use that, especially after the wu came out!

You are correct tight does have dual meanings, I left that out.

God was often used when talking to another dude, However certain folks of the 5% nation found it disrespectful and it was dropped (at least in my little section of Brooklyn)

:( I know my sister is tried of me calling her about these slang terms, without her I'd be clueless:confused:

Here in DC, they say "carry." Now, when I first moved here, I thought I had the meaning, I really did. I thought it meant you were making somebody look stupid or something in front of a group. You know, public humiliation. Now, I'm so confused. Every time I get sarcastic with a student (I'm sarcastic by nature), I'm carryin' them (Ms. Ideal08, why you got to curry me). Well, tonight, one of my girls asked if they could do something, I don't even remember what it was. I told her no. She asked about three more times, but in different ways. So in a way that is classically my own, I stare at her for a few seconds, then I say, "No." The response? "Ms. Ideal08, why you got to curry me?" Now, how did I carry her? No one was around, just me and her. And all I said was "no." I don't get it.

Anyway, other slang that I'd never heard 'til I got here: lunchin'. Can I use it in a sentence? Yup. These people at my job be lunchin'. You know, trippin'.

Also, jonin' (with a long 'o' sound). Synonymous with crackin', you know, the dozens. Tellin' jokes.

So, what's the slang where you live? And I did a search already, too. :p

I'm also from the DC area...we used to say all that stuff in high school. Glad to see it's still around. Here's my contribution (it was touched on earlier)...

Minute - pretty much any length of time. "I haven't seen him in a minute" and I have one friend who will use exponential numbers of "minutes" to denote a long period of time (months, years, etc.). "She hasn't been around here in a minute minute minute"

I, too, am among the ranks of those from the DC area.

Let the record show that those of us in NorthWest say AREA, lol. No but seriously, the term urrea originated in PG County. FOlks from DC just said we're from DC.

One of my prophytes is from Philly, and he introduced me to the wonderful world of jawns, bwahns, and smuttin'.

I picked up "Let me find out" in high school. Like "Let me find out Madonna kissed Britney Spears!"

In college, I picked up "Bus' how" from my New York friends. It's sort like "Check this out"......"Bus' how I got robbed on the way to school!"

...my mom used that one on me as a kid, to threaten me to search harder for whatever she sent me after.

"Don't let me come in there and find that book. If I do, that's your behind."

If I couldn't find the object, at least I knew enough to hide the belt. :D

Said in my typical slang voice:

How come, I'm mad that you said "Bus' how I got robbed on the way to school!"

translation: I am cracking up that you used our term (which is old school by the way)

Some more terms:
What's really good? ~ whats going on

Out of pocket ~ wrong, your trippin or buggin

nah cipher - pronounced nooooow -cipher ..... in other words NO!!!

urrrrea-mainly used by people in PG (Prince George's County, THE largest, most wealth Black county in the country **Shameless plug**) to describe a particular area, or the Metro area in general

Cuz, Joe, Slim, Young, Youngin- along the lines of "dawg"

That's all I can think of right now.

Slang changes with every generation...

From the west coast, back in my day...

Rest--the implied meaning: usually with the movement of the hand and snapping the fingers...

"You know you have to rest when you with the best..."

Endz--those folks who live at the bottom, just skrait ghetto

Air high--means when the truck's or car's hydraulics get the car in the air...

Jazzed--when someone's a little high and a little drunk

Faded--when they are way passed high and drunk

Rollers--the cops--'cuz they roll all over you--especially up in La Mesa, California...

Onetime--LAPD...

Tubular--like totally... Dude...

May SoCal slangs also come from the mixed cultures like Spanish and English...

Cholla--a chick

Chicka--a chick who's your friend.

Bolada--a girl who's a flirt, etc... In junior high, I got called that all the time...

Then we'd all curse in Spanish... But I will leave that alone

2. "(don't talk about it) be about it"- back in the day it meant handle your business
3. (MEMPHIS SLANG) "YOU SLAW"-means you ain't sh**
4. "kick it" (my fav I use alot)-means sex or chillin'
5. "metrosexual"- a guy whose not gay but has feminine ways
6. "hecks naw"- means oh no

I heard today about a salon in Detroit for the 'metrosexual man' and I was so confused about who he is and what he needs with his own salon  Thank you for the clarification on that slang.

Now I need to quietly exit this forum cause I still say "that's fresh" when I'm excited about something. I am completely out of it when it comes to slang.

Eclipse 11-24-2003 10:08 PM

A cousin has recently gotten in the habit of saying
"that's what's up" as an answer to almost anything.

Me: The weather sure is nice today.
Him: Yeah, it is...that's what's up!

Me: I like your shirt.
Him: Thanks cuz....that's what's up!

Me: We're having chicken for dinner tonight
Him: on yeah? That's what's up!

He will also follow it up with "no doubt", or sometimes just "no doubt...that's what's up"

I wanna smack him up side his head when he does that! It's annoying as heck. he's in the military, so I'm not sure where it came from.

That's another piece of slang that came out of Philly. When I first came to school in Florida, some girl told me during our first conversation that she knew I had to be from Philly because I said "that's wassup."

MeezDiscreet 11-25-2003 02:30 AM

"slide"--fight

"getting fly"--copping an attitude

things i've noticed...

depending on how you stretch out the word "minute" determines the length. ex. :

"i aint seen her in a m i n u t e" would be a long time
"let me holla at you for a minute " would be a short period of time

i've also noticed that slang for the act of sex sounds so dang violent and un-romantic: cut, knock it off, get in the guts, bust it open, hit that...
