Here's some more info for you:
Name of the School: Stetson University Approx. Student population: 2000-2500 Number of GLO’s: 6 sororities, 7 fraternities Total: for the sororities it's 60, I'm not sure what it is for the fraternities but it's close to that number, but not more I don't think. |
Name of the School: University of North Texas
Approximate Student Population: 32000 Number of GLO's: 6 NPC, 7 IFC, + NPHC & MCGLOs NPC Total: 75 ETA: Our school is a MAJOR commuter school, and has an anti-greek sentiment to a certain extent (I believe this is largely because of the way the school newspaper portrays greeks, but that's an entirely different post!). Our Panhellenic Council is hoping that recruitment numbers will begin to increase because we are all excited about the new Sorority Row that will be finished being built by this August just in time for recruitment! :) |
Name of School: Jacksonville State University
Approximate Number of Students: 9,000 Number of NPC's: 5 Total: 65 I don't have percentages or anything, but I can say that Greek life and other student organizations are not very popular here. We have a very apathetic campus. |

And the current Greek Adviser is both an ISU and Greek alumna. I agree that the increase in other housing options, budget cuts and the admin attitude isn't really helping. The number of women going through formal is dropping drastically, I have the numbers at home, but it's been something like a 20% decline in the past 2 -3 years. Hopefully the Greek Alumni Alliance that has been established will be able to help in some way. BTW, the VP of the organization is a Kappa alum! |
Name of School: College of William & Mary (Williamsburg, VA)
Student Population: 5,000 Percent of students in Greek system: around 25% NPC sororities: 10 NIC fraternities: between 13-15 (that's a whole other conversation right there) Sorority House Total: 95 Quota (2003): 23 8 of the sororities hover right around 95 - only five members separate the largest from the eighth largest. The other two sororites have about 60 or 70 girls - their numbers fluctuate more, because they COB large classes on a regular basis, while the rest usually only have spots to COB one or two. I had no idea that total was so wildly different from the actual membership within the organizations at most schools. We've been arguing recently over whether or not to raise total - the four consistently largest sororities want to, the two smaller sororities don't want to, and the rest of the sororities recognize that they could easily fall into either category after either a couple good years or a couple bad years. So instead, we make up new formulas for setting quotas and release figures every year. Because it wasn't complicated enough. |
Name of the School: Hillsdale College
Approx. Student population: 1,200-ish Number of GLO’s: - Four NPC groups (will drop to three next year) - Three IFC fraternities (we're a little school!) Total: Well, for some reason, we call it "cap", but it's 80 for the girls.... I don't believe the guys have a total, but perhaps they do. Although we are losing one of our houses at the end of this year, they are not raising cap. We and another group are very near cap, and house #3 is not far behind. |

Name of the School: The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey
Approx. Student population: 6,883 full- and part-time students Number of GLO’s: between 18-22 NPC- 5: National Fraternities (there is no IFC on campus)- 6; there is 7 if you count an org who got kicked off awhile ago, but still manage to have healthy numbers) Minority/NPHC: 9, or 10, or 8. Honestly, we lose and gain them like nothing. Total: no one has total besides NPC, we are at 55. i'm gonna estimate the frats have between 25-35 people; all the minority/nphc have 5 or less (and only phi beta sigma is at 5) |

BTW, I think I read somewhere that you advise at Iowa now, just curious but how many women typically go thru formal there? |
University of New Orleans
Commuter College with like 15,000 maybe more NPC groups: 4 Quota: 34 |

I think about 600 girls went through recruitment last year at Iowa (I'm not positive, though). Quota was 30 or 31 and Total is 120. The campus atmosphere is very different than at Iowa State and the girls going through recruitment tend to be from the Chicago/Milwaukee/Minneapolis area than from a town in Iowa. |
Name of the School: Baylor University
Approx. Student population: 12000 Number of GLO’s: 9 NPC Total: 120 |
Name of School: Eastern Washington University
Approx. Student Population: 12,000 # of GLO's: 4 NPC and 5 IFC Total: 50 |
Name of the School: University of British Columbia
Approx. Student population: 40,000 Number of GLO’s: 8 NPC sororities, 11 IFC fraternities Total: the fraternities don't have a ceiling (at least I don't believe they do), ceiling for UBC sororities is 50. |
