Anyone want to explain why we talk like humans aren't animals?

Buckle up kidos! Controversy is on the way!

You touched upon an excellent point.

I think many of these animal rights activists who are adversive to caged animals in zoos aren't thinking clearly. These animals are not treated badly, they do not live under dangerous or uncomfortable conditions and probably have a higher level of emotional fulfillment than any of their wild counterparts. And this is not stating the obvious, that the information produced from being studied is best applied to ensure the animal will be around for a long time. So what's gonna happen if a wild animal, let's say tigers, do go extinct in the wild and there aren't any left in captivity to ensure the species' survival....anyone?

I consider myself a borderline animal rights activist... I think more animal rights activists support zoos than you think. Personally I love most zoos--ie the North Carolina zoo (in my home state) is one of my favorite places. Acres of natural habitat, etc. I do have a problem with zoos that cage animals in concrete and iron cells that are tiny and unstimulating. Most legit zoos are moving towards the natural habitat model, but there are still mom and pop operations that are safe neither for animals or humans. At any rate, extreme types of protest are not the best way to go, methinks.

Hey cutie, called logic. I think you need to take a break from saving the whales and read Lil'G's thread about wildlife.

Here it is

BUMP

Did you know PETA is PRAISING the tiger for mauling Roy? God you people need to get your heads out of your asses.

Extremist PETA activists should be put up against the wall and shot pour encourager les autres.

(Pour encourager les autres: "in order to encourage the others" in French. Its origin is from Voltaire's Candide:

"Dans ce pay-ci, il est bon de tuer de temps en temps un amiral pour encourager les autres." (In this country it is good to kill an admiral from time to time, to encourage the others.)

The phrase is generally used when the punishment for some offense is entirely disproportionate to the gravity of the offense.)

It's one thing to promote vegetarianism and denounce animal cruelty. (You can take my Big Mac when you can pry it off my cold, dead fingers! ;) ) It's another thing to resort to guerrilla tactics to get your point across.

My two cents' worth (before taxes take 'em all away!).
