I think I need to clarify here that I don't have a problem with J-Board, I have a problem with rho chi's being the "rush police".

Has anyone else heard the rumor that a lot of women dropped out because they think they can get snap bids to houses. (Which isn't true!)? I know tent talk but still I was just wondering!!

pm me because I don't want to talk about it on here!

Congrats on the wedding!!

Do you mean that if they drop out of rush they're not eligible for snap bids or COB? Sorry, I am confused...I thought you could give a snap bid to pretty much anyone.

What about the new Greek advisor? How is she working out, or shouldn't I ask?

And on a totally unrelated topic, is there a Greek store anywhere in Oakland?

salacity18 09-22-2003 12:43 PM

yes there is a greek store in oakland, it is kind of bad campus book store on fifth ave across from childern's if you want to know

and if they drop out they are eligible for cobs. snap bids are given to girls if they are cross cut, if they pref and recieve a bid to neither chapter, they are given out before bid night the girls are called and told they did not recieve a bid from the chapters they prefed but they got XYZ, and ABC. cobs can start at 10PM after bid night to anyone who dropped out of recruitment, withdrew, or the general campus population --- that is my understanding correct me if I am wrong

33girl 09-22-2003 12:48 PM

Oh, OK. I think that since we had so little cross-cutting and so much suiciding, we didn't have a lot of true "snap bids" - everything other than a matched bid was just an open bid. Thanks :)

So is rush over at pitt then??

honeychile 09-22-2003 01:08 PM

fire1977, did the tent talk you heard mostly involve juniors? I'm very curious as to how the ban against free juniors will play out.

Tonight is Pref, and tomorrow is Bid Day. Alumnae pulling out their hair season is in full swing!

Lots and Lots of cross cutting now a days, we had about 50 last fall --- funny thing is this fall that is about half the girls!

I haven't really heard anything about Juniors, I only know how we are dealing with it. I don't allow any of the chapter members to speak to anyone we have on panhel or as rho chi's because of an incident a few years ago so I'm going on what my collegiates in the chapter are telling me.

honeychile 09-22-2003 02:37 PM

My fear is for the Juniors who have hung out with the sisters of XYZ for the past two years, and have finally decided to rush. Obviously, they're much more focused on one sorority than the average freshman. XYZ, on the other hand, feels that they have plenty of juniors, and is concentrating on freshmen & sophmores.

This scenario only perpetuates the elitist stereotype, and I worry about that. My own big sister pledged as a junior, so maybe that's why I take it a little more to heart.

ETC poor spelling!

I can totally understand where honeychile is coming from.

I pledged as a junior and feel so blessed I was able to have this wonderful experience. It would make me sad if other juniors out there didn't get that chance because of a sudden rule change that might have made some sororities concentrate more on freshmen and sophomores (and cutting juniors because of their classification)... they could be missing out on some really awesome girls :(

I also am a strong believer in sorority being for a lifetime ... not just the 4 - 3- 2 years that you participate with a collegiate chapter.

I have to tell you, I'm a geriatric counselor, and there are days (today!) where I hear horror story after horror story, all day long. I read this and cracked up!

Thank you, Lisa!! :D

I think the concern with Juniors within this campus is the amount of Juniors already in a sorority, you don't want to graduate half of your sorority next year by taking only juniors, you need to have a balance. To be honest I agree with salacity.
