That was a really good video..

we use videos as well during recruitment. In the beginning they were just pictures with music and such. Now we interview sisters and edited tape. They are also nice to have copies of later on. Sometimes I watch mine when I miss people :)

also.. its fun bc at the end.. is a bunch of the edited material that the pnms dont get to see ;) its all the funny stories that were told on camera when people were talking or funny movies from different events..

The video is super cute. Makes me happy that I'm a Theta. The words at the end of it aren't something that they created however. It's part of a video that our HQ created that is generally know as the "Words Video," with the Forrest Gump Suite playing along with it. It alone makes me cry, but what that chapter did with the whole thing is pretty cool I think.

that was an awesoem video

veemers 02-16-2004 12:07 AM

i wasn't particularly impressed by the video. it was very stock. blah blah blah i love my sisters, we're all so different, we all stand up for each other and do stuff for each other. that doesn't make kappa different from other sororities. what about their philanthropy projects? what are their annual sponsored events? i hate to say this, but the video just reminded me of a bubblegum sleepover. pretty girls get together and have fun.

that is the most disrespectful thing I have ever read. Please do not take something that is just one piece of the entire rush process and make it negative. That is probably something the rushees see to get familiar with theta. Trust me their is a philanthrophy night and all kinds of other activites to bring out community service and grades, etc. Watching that video gave me a great feeling and reminded me of how great it is to be apart of the most wonderful organization in the world. Not only is being a theta special...being greek is great and those were the best times of my life. In a hectic work world after graduation seeing that video allowed me to smile and think back to my college years. Please do not take something special and turn it into something negative.

By the way we are not called "kappas" we are called "thetas"
"Kappa" is Kappa Kappa Gamma

First of all, I call them Kappas because Theta Pi Gamma, here at Beloit College, is called Theta. Our other local is looking into getting Kappa Alpha Theta recolonized here. To avoid confusion, I call them Kappa.

Second of all, I wrote nothing disrespectful. Just my OPINION of the VIDEO. It was a poorly done video, both technically and thematically.

Since our video is so poor...please post your video on the thread I would love to get some tips to pass on to the girls on how to improve their video.
thanks a bunch :)

Heck, after seeing that video I wanted to pledge Theta myself! I particularly liked the quotes at the end.

I know nothing about video production, but thought it was an impressive promotional piece. My guess is that most PNM share my level of expertise, and would be similarly impressed.

:)

I couldn't watch the video (I got a big red X and "pi chi") but if it doesn't do it for someone, no need to jump on them or ask where their video is. I didn't hear anyone saying "this video sucks and KAT sucks too", just opinions on the content.

TigerLilly 02-20-2004 01:12 PM

EEKappa -- My sentiments exactly. I certainly couldn't make a video like that.

veemers -- What you said about how it was lacking in certain areas like philanthropy/events information is true. However, it probably wasn't meant to have those things in it in the first place. It seems to me like it would make a good opening day video, since it has lots of general information about various aspects of Greek life and then about this chapter of Theta specifically. Philanthropy and such would be addressed later on in rush. This is just a feel-good video that shows a lot of sisterhood and fun times that should make rushees want to be a part of that, too.

Then again, this video also might be good to show at pref. Then all those things you brought up, veemers, would have already been talked about, and they would just want to make the PNMs feel all warm-fuzzy about the chapter and their prospective sisters. At that, I think they certainly succeed.

If I were going through rush and saw that video, it would definitely help keep this chapter in my mind for the rest of rush!

33girl -- when you see the big X and the pi chi, just keep watching. The part with the pi chi has been Xed out, happens several times in the video, but then it continues with the picture when it's not showing the pi chi any more.

Why the large X with Pi Chi? Does this happen when a Theta is a rush counselor and is part of the video thus they can't show her?

Edited re grammar

Pi Chi is like a Rho Chi... just different titles. So to answer the second question yes... The video I'm guessing was shown when those people weren't Pi Chi's but then put on the internet when they were... I know with pictures on websites and in the house, you have to cover them up or remove them. These are all my takes on the situation.

I believe in constructive criticism and what was put above was not that. It was harsh and didn't help them improve what you felt was missing. I don't think that the video was meant to be a "catch-all" of what a GLO is, it is more about the Sisterhood. I thought that it was nicely put together and I loved the music. I did find it slow in some parts and it didn't WOW me to the point that I would want to join at that moment... but these are all my thoughts on the subject. Also I am guessing that the video would WOW me if I was going through RUSH and had experienced the whole week.

As we see different strokes for different folks... same reason why we all wear different letters.

UF's sororities all make these videos, and they're all at least this quality, and have been for years. It's pretty intense.

The videos are shown Round 3. So at that point the PNM's have already been to that house twice. Round 1 they get a general intro to the house. Round 2 is a philanthropy round (last I heard, anyway), so they already know all about that too.

Round 3 is the chapters' last chance to make an impact and emotional connection before Prefs. It would be stupid for the video to go on and on about service projects or general events. I guarantee you that the sisters featured on the video included the most outgoing girls in the house, exec members, rush chair, etc. So chances are, most PNM's sitting there will see a sister they already met on that video.

While these videos are playing, the sisters are either sitting next to the PNM's or standing behind or around them. The sororities always put stuff in about the seniors or people who aren't there anymore to get sisters crying. (I was always stationed near the front because I was known for crying "elegantly," in the words of our house mom :D)

Generally, after the video, they sing a sisterhood song or someone reads a poem or something equally sentimental. Then the PNM's are led to the door. It's very emotional.

Theta's video here perfectly accomplishes everything it's supposed to accomplish. Yep, they're beautiful and outgoing girls. Have been that way forever as far as I know. Super nice, too. Gosh, it's just terrible that their video shows that! Give me a break.

Here are links for two Pi Lambda Phi rush videos:

CA Tau, Berkeley
Berkeley PiLam Rush Vid

MA Theta, MITMIT PiLam Rush Vid

The Berkeley one is a bit more fun, the MIT is a bit more serious
