Hee hee... Our girls STILL get the "no white below the waist" lecture during the chapter meeting right before and the one right after Labor Day! And it's not just the older alums who go by it... the girls in the house police each other! I haven't seen a sorority woman here wearing white (dress) shoes after labor day... I think EVER!

Since it is still very hot here after Labor Day, most people have relaxed on the "no open toed shoes after labor day" rule. I don't follow that one, myself. I will wear sandals until it cools off, but I would die before wearing white sandals before Easter or after Labor Day. It's just tacky. ;)

May I please bottom line this?

Sarah posted her dress, along with the particulars about her school's rush & pref, and asked for opinions from those of us who have been through a competitive rush. She is free to accept or reject any of the opinions given. She was even smart enough to give the high sign for "enough already!", but people are still arguing about it.

Sarah, I'm sure that you're able to digest what's already been posted, and will decide from there. The important thing is to wear something that makes you feel good about yourself, because that will show more than anything else. Good luck with rush, and may you get the bid of your choice!

Sarah, have you looked for a different dress yet, since your boyfriend decided white wasn't your color? I think that is a very cute cut of dress - I'm not sure what your coloring is, but I bet you could find a similiar dress on sale in lots of pastel colors right now. :)

I think I might just make my own dress. I'm crafty enough, and I think it's one of my best attributes, so I may as well.

And then you know you'd be unique! My mom used to make me gorgeous dresses before she stopped sewing - I'm secretly hoping she'll start again because I'm broke. ;)

You could make the dress in a really gorgeous fabric or your favorite color to help yourself stand out - I remember in one post on here, a Kappa was talking about how she saw a girl at pref wearing a bright pink scarf and it made her stand out. I think color would look nice in the sea of black! When I preffed all the other PNMs were wearing either all black or something really casual, and I felt special in my black skirt and pink top. :D

You may certainly "bottom line" it. But threads here often go off topic and it isn't a big deal. If people are no longer interested in reading the thread, they may choose simply to avoid reading it.

Sara, I'm sure that youwill make a good decision about what to wear for pref. I like the idea of making your own dress...it will be one-of-a-kind and will fit perfectly! (Assuming that you can sew better than I can!! I'm embarrassed to say that I can hardly sew on a button!) :)

haha, I can guarantee nothing of quality! but of course it will be unique. I've even already had some ideas. I'll need to ask my grandma for help.

I'm thinking of dark green with an accent color around the waist area. I'm naturally a redhead, so does anyone have an idea as to which accent color would go well with dark green?

You know, my problem was never with anyone believing about the white after labor day thing. I was making a joke about it not being a problem anymore. My problem is where the person came in and called it unclassy.

I don't even wear anything below the belt white after labor day, and me saying the things about my socks, bras, and panties was just making a point about how ridiculus the unclassy comment was. If people wear white after labor day, I might think it's a "no-no" - but I certinaly wouldn't say OH MY! THAT GIRL ISN'T CLASSY!

I thought maybe me putting I am a dork at the bottom of the orignial post I quoted would help show my joking around - apparently some people just didn't pick that up.

Also, I only read the original post, and like on most threads with many replies, I only skim through the replies. I didn't see the part where she said her rush was mid-september. I'm sorry.

I didn't mean to cause any such drama with my joke. I feel bad now which makes me not really want to post anywhere else on greekchat anymore except for in the DG forum.

My main point: Classiness is all a matter of perspective, and if you base your opinion of class on a color - then traditionally I guess your favorite color should be purple.

The rule was not a problem to me, it was only the comment made about it.

I'm sure I will get nailed to the cross for this comment, but I think maybe a deep cream color might look good as an accent.

maybe I'll go thrift store shopping and find something cute from the 60's. then do my hair all clara bow-esque.

I agree- I think the deep cream would look awesome. Since it's not going to be near your face, I think you could probably get away with a color that doesn't look great with your hair, though, especially if it will be pulled up.

I second...or third, maybe it is, the idea for cream colored accents with the dark green. I think that would be beautiful! Especially with red hair-as a fellow redhead, I understand the plight of trying to get your outfit to not clash with your hair. Good luck sewing or shopping, whatever you decide on!

I TOTALLY agree with the deep cream. as an accent cream is ALWAYS appropriate and classy.

Personally I think cream is also beautiful when worn in winter. But I could never pull it off because i have the bad luck where I'd spill.... I LOVED the cream outfit they put on J.Lo in Maid In Manhattan.

I'm thinking that there should be a "GC Redheads Anonymous"!

I like the idea of a cream accent, too. My mom had a gorgeous dress of shantung silk that was deep green with a deep blue undersheen. It sounds nasty, but I always called it her "Barbie Dress" - because it just looked so classic!
