I am soooo excited for our Soror! I have followed pagaents for a long time. And she deserves the title! I can not wait until her reign officially starts. Make sure to follow her on the miss america website. They will do updates on miss america travels... www.missamerica.org

Way to go!

Yes congrats to our soror, but can anyone tell me the significance of the handsign? She displayed it a couple of times during the pageant.

Excellent work

Congratulations on Miss America Ericka Dunlap and ladies of Delta Sigma Theta. She's an impressive one. :)

The pageant watching folks at my house were pulling for her, including my nephew's (non-AA) friend: "she's hot."

NUPE4LIFE 09-21-2003 01:15 PM

I believe the handsign is one that they often do at rock concerts. I'm sorta guessing, but I believe it means "rock on" or something like that.

encouraged1 09-21-2003 01:31 PM

I think the sign means 'I love you' in sign language. I'm happy for Florida since I used to live in Tallahassee. She'll make a great Miss America although I think Hawaii and Maryland were robbed! Those girls could really sing! Best of luck to Ericka anyways. :)

Wow!! Congrate ladies of Delta Sigma Theta!!!!!!!!!!!! I saw the whole thing I was excited there were three of "us" in the top 10. She looked GREAT in that dress!!!!

It does mean I LOVE YOU in sign language. There are so many people in the pageant world that hit you with the I LOVE YOU sign since mouthing "I love you" doesn't really work when you are in a pageant -- no one can see it. That I LOVE YOU sign is right up there with that palm's up thank you motion that all of the girls do to the judges when they are selected to move on to the next round. http://www.superbabies.homestead.com/files/roses4me.gif

first things first, congrats to soror dunlap. wear the crown well and represent to the fullest. i didn't watch the pageant, but i also heard that three out of the top five finishers were Black. is this true? lastly, me not being familiar w/the ins and outs of beauty pageants, how did she bring out elephants (on stage?)? i read that she did that, in an earlier post.
