he's a freak just like me and all the rest - lol. i'm just don't think i now see him as some religious leader or spiritual advisor like . . . ms. adams or shirley ceasar. i see him as an entertainer and he says jump i won't be thinking jump for jesus but get your hand up and lets set it off.

I can't honestly say that I can take away any anointing that Kirk has. It is his trials and testimonies that, to me, make him a greater minister. I don't want someone telling me that God can and will deliver you when they haven't been through anything. I can't hold Kirk's past against him because God doesn't hold mine against me. (And if he did? Whew...)

Interesting. I just remember that no man is perfect. I never saw Kirk Franklin as perfect. Kirk's music as well as his testimony -- background and his struggles -- are instruments of ministry. His addiction to pornography is the thorn in his flesh or cross to bear that God gave to him to be a light for others.

I am sure a whoooooooooole bunch of people, men and women, watched Oprah last night and gained courage to come to grips with an addiction, be it pornography or otherwise.

I hold Kirk in the same light that I do Rev. Vashti McKenzie, Pastor Murphy, and Pastor Troy -- all pastors, 2 whose churches I currently belong to or formerly belonged to.

I was not devastated to hear about Kirk's addiction because I believe the Bible to be true when it says, "We ALL fall short of the glory of God." That verse does not say all the people who are not in ministry or sit in a pulpit or sing in the choir, lead praise and worship, etc. etc.

My mother last year set me up with a Pastor. Not an associate minister or minister of music or deacon or what not, but a PASTOR. Do you know one night we were talking and this man of God OPENLY TOLD ME that he fornicates. I almost dropped my phone. He told me, "once we touch lips, soon we will touch hips."    I was turned off and offended outright.

So as you can see, I continue to hold Kirk Franklin in a good light. He knows what he did was wrong, but he never saw himself as totally above it -- his addiction or his hoeing. He conquered it through a lot of prayer, his wife's support, etc.

I can listen to his music now with an even greater respect and appreciation.

Amen!! Amen!! and Amen!!

I'm certainly with you on God's unmerited favor. However, Kirk has been going through this for 20 years or more. He is a man I have listened to for inspiration. His songs or praise gave me hope, joy, understanding. Now, I learn he is a sex freak. To me, I may as well consider buying a gospel cd from dirty kim - sorry, little kim.

WOW!!

What if you found out today that Shirley Caesar also suffered with an addiction to pornography?

He suffered with it because he went to his pastor who dismissed his addiction! He was never taught how to live as a Christian man. He said the men around IN THE CHURCH did it too as well as cheated on their wives. He was surrounded by hypocrites but he still wanted to live right and seek God's will.

I guess I am just seeing this differently than you.

Being the daughter of a Minister and Gospel Artist, you'd be amazed the number of pastors you may have sat under and artists you've listened to that lead these double lives and have no conviction whatsoever about what their doing. I understand your feelings, though. Just know that Kirk is REALLY not alone. And to mention it, do you hold these same feelings about Donnie McClurkin who openly admitted to living a homosexual lifestyle prior to becoming a Gospel Superstar? What about Daryl Coley? These are both Gospel artists singing about the love of Jesus who have been delivered from their past sins.

Professor 12-01-2005 02:52 PM

he went to his pastor at 14 or 15. the man is now in his 30's.

Professor 12-01-2005 02:55 PM
