Maybe I'll get to meet you soon at a NE Regional... if I ever go? Perhaps this year I will. :) |
I am the first and also the first to graduate from a 4 yr college. :)
|
My dad is a member of PBS and when I was first entering college he expected me to do zeta, but when i crossed Sigma Gamma Rho and told him about it he was cool with it. He was just happy I kept blue in the family.
My sister on the other hand will be entering college this next year and she's considering pledging, but she says she doesn't know what she wants to do. Either way it's all love :) |

Im the first greek in my family as well as the first to attend a 4 year university. My family was pretty supportive. The first time I wore my line jacket around my grandma she said "Ooh that jacket is pretty, but what does E.R.P mean" She's so funny. I showed her the greek alphabet and then she got it. My mom is very proud she always brags to her friends about how Im a "Simma Gamma Rho". :D

I have an uncle who's a Kappa. He was very supportive, but the rest of my family wasn't initially. They said Greek life took time away from family life (I'm very family oriented). But they learned that I could mix the two. Now they're very supportive. My family brags now about how I'm a Delta, so it's all good.

I was the first to become Greek. My younger cousin came to MSU a year after me and he was interested in XYZ fraternity so I encouraged him to pursue it. He tried to make friends with some of the XYZ brothers but was disrespected because most of my cousin's friends were Iotas (when you are a friend or family member of an Iota, you are pretty much under the Brown and Gold umbrella). Then we had our smoker and he showed up, totally surprised me.
Four years later, both of us became Masons in the same class. We are cousins and brothers two times over. |

I'm the second person in my family to graduate college, with my cousin who is one year older being the first and she was way too focused on studying to consider going greek so, I am the only greek. Most of the family don't even know what the heck that means. Where I'm from, we don't have such things as fraternities or sororities. I told my mother and she says, "is that a cult?"
|
I have an aunt and 5 cousins who are AKA, and my aunt as well as a cousin married Ques. I'm only Kappa in the family. My cousin-in-law teases me all the time about how I made the wrong decision. It's all in good fun. He's a minister but he still reps that Omega Psi Phi! My mother questioned me though when she knew I was thinking about pledging. She was like why are doing this. She thought I was wasting my money. She eventually came around.

Ironically, my niece who is three years older than my daughter became a Sigma before I became a Zeta. She was the first to "Go Greek" in our family. I became a Zeta a year later, and my daughter followed in Momma Dove's footsteps, crossing in January '06.
My Mom teases us saying "my babies look like Queens in their "Royal Blue." |
All of the greeks in my family are Alphas and Omegas. I started the legacy and hope to continue the legacy. But if my daughter chooses to go elsewhere I won't be mad. But she better be the best damn Zeta, SGRho, or Delta that she could be!
