I know full well I'm not grown yet, I don't care if I'm in college, I still need my parents help. But I do have my moments of responsibility....
Staying up writing papers nearly 10 pages long (remember in high school when 5 pages made your mouth fall open?) Buying my own groceries Dating (I didn't start till college) Filling up/washing my own car Never having to say "Well, let me ask my parents and get back to you." Having my mom offer me a drink instead of sending me to my room so I won't see her drinking ....Oh yeah, and having a HUGE crush on Chris Brown, but thinking "Ugh, he's only 16." |
What makes me feel grown:
Having my car payment debited electronically each month from my account (this is the only bill I can do this with, too scared to do the others) Having my grandmother depend on me for errands Funny story-My mom always said that I was grown ONLY when I moved out of her house. So when I was living there after college and had my job and car I still wasn't grown to her. When I moved out I was contemplating on when I would let her know that I was grown because she neglected to acknowledge the fact  We were at my grandmother's house so I decided to let them know at the same time. I proudly announced myself, and my mother called me over to her chair. Thinking she was going to congratulate me, this lady PUNCHED ME IN MY THIGH!!:o It hurt too! I didn't care though, cuz even with a hurt thigh I was still grown :D Later on that night I of course accidentally ran into the footboard of my bed and bruised the exact same spot where my mother hit me. Boo. |
1. Paying the mortgage
2. Paying bills 3. Coming home when I please |
Buying my car
Paying my car insurance Paying my bills online monthly Buying all of my clothes and food Being able to order a drink Being able to come and go as I please I'M ENGAGED :D Dressing grown (I can honestly say my taste in clothing has made a change) The fact that I can no longer stay up all night and be nice and perky the next day. I must go to bed early. |
Paying rent
Cleaning when I want to and not because my mom makes those faces when she walks past my room Paying bills :( Buying liquor and not getting carded!!!! whoo hoo Filing taxes and actually being able to do something with the refund. Being able to come and go as I wish Having company whenever I want to!!! :p Having to wash dishes and take out the trash (company does it when he comes over!!) ETA: Being able to stay awake during the sermon and realizing that what the preacher is saying relates to me. (I ALWAYS fell asleep in church) |

I simply can't hang like I used to. I start getting that drowsy eye and then I'm out. I also feel grown when I have the pleasure of talking to my grown man about grown folks stuff - instead of these little knuckleheads I used to deal with. |

Another grown folk moment is your own car, your OWN responsibility. After 6 weeks of having my car, something is wrong with the drive belt (its making a chirpy noise) and my warranty wont cover it until it actually breaks....sooooo I may have to come out the pocket with $200 :( |
I don't know why but pumping gas makes me feel grown. I guess it's one of those silly things that I saw my parents do.
Also - going to Home Depot/Lowe's - going to the bank - wearing heels everyday - walking up to my car at the end of the day - having a lot of keys (another silly one...LOL) - getting estimates for housework on MY house |

LOL....that's true for me except the rugrat I used to babysit has a wife and a set of twins! |
I have friends MY AGE that are grandparents   . Shoot my mom is 68 and still isn't a grandparent....:p
|
I'm still a baby (21:D ) but for me it's driving up and down the roads and from one state to another state for hours in my own car. I use to dream of what my own car would be like when I was in high school, so it's cool that now I know.
Having a great credit score:D Being able to take out loans and get an apartment without having a co-signer and being able to pay for it out of my own money. My mom not having to pay for anything for me;) Wearing blazers and heels almost every day at work. I work at a law firm and I don't have to wear them but it makes me feel like I'm actually already an attorney:D For some reason planning to go to law school and planning on getting a masters makes me feel grown. Just something about continuing my education that I find to be a sign of great maturity and wisdom. But lord knows I need to go back to grade school for spelling and grammer lol.:p |

I got my first taste of what it feels like to really be grown, when I had car trouble and couldn't call my daddy to pay for it.:(

1. when the little boys at Radio Shack snickered at the record player & I was all "siced" to see one...
2. When I rocked my fake pony tail at work & it flew off in front of co-workers and I didn't take off for the rest of the week. I just picked that bad boy up and shoved it back in. 3. when my mother gave me my Christening gown and I couldn't imagine being that small and I started crying, knowing that I could never go back. 4. When I slapped down $800 to get my damn brakes fixed and I didn't even know where the money came from. God is good all the time... |
having boy company :o :p ;)
being the one to give my mother advice about certain things and she "hear" me |
