At least in my chapter, we didn't have that. Once someone is initiated, she's equal in every way to the rest of the chapter.

texas*princess 04-16-2003 05:12 PM

My boyfriend's chapter does that... but it's for little things.. and they also have 'office' over another person... like for example, if the VP was the VP and had a lower initation number than say the recording secretary, that was like a double-whammy.. hehehe.. they are silly guys

Sometimes people call low badge on me and I'm like "shut up"

Glitter650 04-16-2003 08:23 PM

We call it scrolling, and we don't do it anymore, sometimes as a joke we still say it, but the person doesn't have to do what you say.

GeekyPenguin 04-18-2003 12:36 PM

We also call it scrolling (we got it from TKE and Delta Sig) but we'll only do it jokingly...I don't think anyone has ever obeyed scroll. And I agree - scroll cannot mess with shotgun! Somebody tried to scroll me out of shotgun yesterday and I was not having it! :)

Our Chapter calls it scrolling because some of our old members still think its okay to do. Our VP on the other hand (Pledge Mom) Gets REALLY upset if you try and scroll one of the people in the New Member class, because we have such strong rules about not hazing.

No one tried to scroll us all semster even jokingly until the last week. THey joked around with us that we thought we got off easy but now the hard stuff started and the last weekt hey would all try and get us to do something for them like "go do my laundry, now SCROLL" and if you actually went to go do it everyone would laugh cause they didnt expect you to do it....

I wouldn't consider it hazing unless it was taken seriously. In our chapter, we'll jokingly do it on obscene things...I've been known to "scroll" people to go do my COBOL homework - they obviously aren't going to do it, nor do I really want them to. My roommate did scroll me to get out of bed one day, I think that's the only time I've ever listened. :)

We've abandoned the practice, but our number still shows up on our address labels for our magazine. No one ever made a big deal out of it, though.

Badge #'s -- usually they indicate the order in which you were initiated. Some organizations keep them by chapter, such as mine, I belong to the Mu Tau chapter of Sigma Nu and was the 5th person initiated into the chapter. Therefore, my badge # is MT 5.

Some other organizations go by national #...

AlphaGamDiva 04-22-2003 02:43 AM

we try to bust it out every now and then, but it's always done in a joking manner....like, "roll number, biotch, get outta my seat" (aka: the corner on the couch)...no one ever plays along. although....one time i pulled it on one of my sisters for shot gun....and i didn't think she would do it b/c at this point she'd been in for a while, but she was like, "oh! ok!"....i got in the front seat giggling while the sister driving just shook her head.....we both told her if she ever let somene call roll number on her again we'd kick her in her teef. :) sisterly love.....ain't it great?

teke4life 04-23-2003 05:13 PM

"they look deep into my soul, and assign me a number based on the order in which i joined." - homer simpson

"its all about scroll." - me, mu-theta scroll #485

up until 3 years ago, we used to have our scroll # engraved on the back of our badge, but no longer.

officially in my chapter, scroll is only used for seating in house meetings and room selection. but god knows, its been used for some of the strangest things i've ever seen. overruling shotgun has to be the most common. i usually retort with "pummel", in that case if i can beat up the person w/ higher scroll then they usually back down.

Oh, yes, single and double digit Numbers are important for many reasons:

1. is being a member when you have 4-5-600 or 1000+!

2. Somethign that the New Memembers can look up to

3. Shows the longivity when those members come gack for functions

4. Functions that they come back to besides Homecoming and Founders Day!

When I and many of the Brothers go back for not only H C, F D, but Mentoring Meetings, this shows solodarity and the Life Long Commitment that LXA has in our Fraternity!

sigmanuzk 04-28-2003 05:35 AM

Here there are different rules on badge at our Chapter.

1. Commander(president) has Badge over everyone.
2. Calling Badge on a Pledge Brother is allowed But is an insult to that person and is Taboo.
3. When we are in a place where we eat in line badge is the order we go in.
4. Badge is earned on a points system.
5. No calling Badge on property owned by that person.
6. It is tradition to have a drink with the Person 100 Badges above and below you.

Optimist Prime 04-28-2003 08:23 AM

We call badge on pledge brothers just to mess around. Usually answered with an explitive. Haha. The funny parts are when people with a lower badge number call it on you, then everyone just stares at them.

PearlGirl 04-30-2003 12:42 AM

We call these numbers scroll. We are initiated alphabetically so you can not use it to other people in your pledge class. We don't really use it alot in our chapter, more of a joke than anything, or small stuff, like calling shotgun.
