Well, I'm going to chime in here. Personally, I like the Gucci ad. I get it. As a photographer, I think the concept is genius.
1. it's not porn 2. there are worse things going on in the world than a photoshop doctered picture of a woman's pubic area. 3. the 'penis guy' ad doesn't work--it's more stupid than anything else. |

WOW
That last ad is wild. I'm not even really sure what I think about that one. However, I think the Gucci ad does bring up some interesting issues. While, this is the US and not Europe, our "hush-hush" views about sex may have created some serious social problems here at home. These attitudes that reject the beauty of a nude body or sex allow for negative attitudes that are psychologically harmful to surface. For instance, many people have said, and will still say, that the vagina is dirty or that it is wrong for a woman to enjoy sex. This leads to women partaking in unnecessary and many times unhealthy practices to "clean" themselves, or women who go their whole lives either sexually unfulfilled or ashamed of their sexual pleasures. Now most people on ths message board may not be facing that reality. I believe many women today are sexually secure and are unconcerned w/society's views. However, some women are still inhibited by these attitudes. Anyways, I know this is just 1 ad and probably not that important, but maybe if we were more accepting of sex and the human body it would reduce some of our sexual crimes, or abortions amongst young, unmarried women, or any of the other several issues that are facing US society.
Just My Opinion Folks, Marie |
So, this justifies that one should not be held to a higher standard even in advertising?
SOME ISHT should remain in Playboy, Playgirl, Penthouse and the like... Excuses, excuses.... |
I agree wholeheartedly with AKA2D'91! This is a bit much..

This isn't the Venus D'Milo, this is:
1. a pic of some girls pubic hair 2. a pic of some girl giving "oral pleasure" with the after effects dripping on her knee. Yes, I can see the artisitc beauty. If anything, if we want to talk about this in regards to our society, why are these ads depicting WOMEN in such positions. I don't see ads with men's pubic hair or with men giving a woman "pleasure" or with men in any type of demeaning position? Hmmm, I wonder why :o  |
Well, I haven't come to my final conclusion regarding the girl giving head, so I'm not taking a stance on that. However, as far as female nudity in advertising, I believe that the 2nd ad that was posted had a man butt-naked. Yet, I agree that women are far more exploited in the media than men, so this may be another example of that. There is no denying that there are many societal issues that involve women and sex, I just made the few points that immediatedly struck me as I was reading.
