I believe someone earlier said it best.... use this tv show as an opportunity for dialogue during rush or with some other event. People in general must now by now that TV is not the same as real life. I myself love the commercials, especially with that southern lady. Her accent KILLS me especially when she pronounces the sorority's name. |

And it's not like "Sorority Life" has presented a one-hundred percent terrible version of real sorority life. The Sigmas, for example, showed MTV viewers that not all sorority girls are blond, beautiful, skinny and stuck-up -- there were plenty of brunette, average-looking and down-to-earth girls in that sorority. And if what Chloe said and the rumors about "Sorority Life 3" are true, it's awesome that they'll be showing a multicultural sorority on the show, which will help to dispel the rumors that the Greek system is racist/elitist/whatever. I hate to break it to you guys, but the stereotypes MTV is perpetuating are already held to be true by most anti-Greeks. They already assume we drink all the time, haze, are promiscuous -- so the fact that MTV is showing them a show with the same theme doesn't mean much. And at the same time, we are getting some decent publicity out of it -- the viewers are also seeing that sorority girls are not cookie cutter and some of them are actually really nice, down-to-earth, cool girls. Of course, I could retract that entire statement after this season -- we'll see. I love the Southern lady too! |

I work with a girl who was in an NPC at Buffalo. She is a recent graduate and knows many of the people who will be shown. She's going to hold viewing parties and give us the low-down on people, Greek Life there, etc. I'll let you know if I hear anything scandelous! ;)
Also, she mentioned that she spoke to some of her sisters who are still there, and even if they were at an all-Greek philanthropy or something, MTV was asking everyone to sign waivers to be shown. Obviously her NPC group refused to sign. And she mentioned they didn't hold any events with the fraternity while the show was being taped. |
If it's in "Los Angeles" area, that's a huge area to cover. I'm guessing they chose someplace like CSU Long Beach. I haven't seen evidence that would show that they're at CSU Northridge, in the San Fernando Valley. They approached my fraternity, did an phone interview, and then promptly never contacted us again.
|
They aren't filming at Long Beach, that I know... we don't have an A-D-Pi chapter...so it must be elsewhere. I can't remember where chloe goes, but I think that it is USC right?
|
I believe that chloe173 is at USC.
I completely agree with everything sugar and spice said. No matter what group they choose, unless it's a nun group, they are going to play up whatever drinking and drama there is - no one can be an angel for all that time. I think I would be more offended if they showed the sort of group where all the clothes are designer, all the women are WASPs and the house looks like Buckingham Palace. That makes so many women think they are not cut out to be in a sorority and I think we lose more prospective members to that than to the drinking/hazing aspect. |

I am definitely going to be watching, but not because of the sorority. I want to see all my old haunts on the North Campus and Chippewa! ;) |
