Nowadays, I rarely wear makeup to work. Unlike some of my other reporting jobs, I don't really do any in-person interviews; my work is done on the telephone or by e-mail. Besides, my foundation costs over $30 a tube, so I need to be careful on how I use it. :eek:

I do, however, put on maquillage for special occasions, church, going out and for sorority business. :) I'm pretty lucky in that I'm nearly 40 and don't truly need it.

Wow some of y'all are so high maintenence. And 90% of y'all probably truly don't need it. I actually look better w/o it. I always have taken care of my skin and I never have breakouts, my eyebrows and lashes are dark, my cheeks are pink and my hair is thick w/ lots of natural body so I don't really do much to it to make it behave. But it sucks to look 15 sometimes. Then again it is nice to know that I don't have to wake up 2 hrs before class to look presentable. I'm all for the natural look. Girls and guys. I hate guys w/ gunk in their hair. Esp. guys w/ curly hair. Let your curls go!! I love that look!!

totally agree w/ swissmiss ! i'm all about the natural look and don't spend 2-3 hours every morning doing make-up and messing with my hair (esp. for those 8 am class.. no way am i going to wake up at 5 am to primp myself up :p )

Eyeliner is about all anyone will get out of me. I'm the type of person who doesn't really care what others think. If people see me without makeup and that is the only thing they can think of to talk about, then I see that as being pretty shallow.

i usually don't worry about makeup. i look at it like this, if the man of my dreams sees me without make up on, then he'll know what to expect first thing in the morning. well, a little better than that, but you get the point.

since i've graduated and have more time to get ready in the morning, i do put on some make up. when i'm feeling really ambitious i do the full eyes, foundation, blush, and lipstick thing.

i've always prided myself on having natural beauty and not being high maintenance. as i get older that's changed a little bit.

I think I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of times I've worn makeup this year. When I have, it's just been foundation, powder, and lipstick.

Back in high school, I had a full morning make-up routine - foundation, powder, blush, eyeshadow, eyeliner, lipstick. I was 14. :rolleyes: I did need the foundation at times, to cover acne breakouts, but I didn't need the rest of that stuff... but at that age, if you weren't wearing makeup, it implied that your parents wouldn't let you and that you were actually obeying them, and what 14-year-old wants to send that message? :)

My senior year of high school, I was so hosed with college applications, APs, etc. that my makeup routine slowly got chipped away at. First I started doing eyeshadow and no eyeliner, then I started skipping the blush, then it was just foundation and lipstick, and by the end of senior year I rarely wore makeup at all.

So, I know how to use makeup, how to pick colors that look good on me, how to put on eyeshadow so that it doesn't look like I applied it with a paint roller, etc. - I just hardly ever do it any more.

I NEVER wear makeup. Why? Don't need it. I wash my face everyday and apply cocoa butter afterward. It works wonders.

I DO wear lip gloss, but that's about it.

I am with IowaHawkeye. Class is not a fashion show. I don't really mind falling out of the bed, taking a 20 minute shower and throwing on some sweats or a tee shirt and shorts.

If I see my ex while I am wearing some bummy clothes I could care less. He knows what he lost and he remembers what he had. Too bad.

And if I meet the man of my dreams, I would SO rather look natural. alphaiota, I hear ya!

I'm nearly the opposite of the rest of you, it sounds like!

I rarely wear makeup or fix my hair to go to work. I cherish those extra few minutes of sleep in the morning, and since I have very little face-to-face contact with anyone during the day, I don't need to impress anyone but myself :)

However, when I get home from work, I'll usually put a little makeup on and fix my hair before my boyfriend gets home, because I always try to look my best for him. I know it doesn't matter a whole lot to him if I wear any or not (aah, love!) but I just want him to see me at my best... make an effort :)

I usually look like I have make-up on when I don't have any thanks to thick eyelashes, rosey cheeks and pink lips so I'm usually in my natural state when it comes to make up. I have tho this school year started being a little more high maintenace when it comes to hair and make up and will at least put on perfume, moisturizer and lip shine before I head out. Hair is always at least brushed. I wasn't aloud to wear make up till high school and even then I hardly ever wore it. I've never been one to spend a lot on it or wear a lot of it. But I do like it! LOL

And you never know when you will see that ex-bf that dumped you. And sadly I want people to talk good about me. I want people to say "you know Jen looks nice today?" or "man, I wish I was dating Jen". I know thats horrible of me but its the truth so I might as well not deny it.

As for class not being a fashion show. Well, here at UK it can be. If you are in a sorority the best thing to do is wear black stretchy pants, your sorority shirt, school mascot visor and sorority tote bag. This way you look like crap......but hey you're in this sorority so you're still awesome! But for non-sorority girls makeup is a must unless you don't want to be noticed. And when you've got class with UK basketball players you WANT to be noticed!!!
I had a 8:30am class with a girl who woke up at 5am to take an aerobics class, then came to class in dress clothes. So the rest of us girls were like "crap now we have to look good too" So for the rest of the semester all of us would try to look half decent.

Its all about confidence. I enjoy putting on makeup, I enjoy getting compliments about how I look. If I dont' have that "I feel pretty" attitude than with or without makeup I still look bad b/c I try to hide and I dont' smile. However, I could give a rats ass about my hair. Put it in a bun or ponytail and I"m good to go.

You think that's horrible? I always make sure I have a cute, matching (or at least semi-coordinated) bra and underwear set on despite the fact that I don't have a boyfriend and am not the type who's into random hookups (no offense to anyone who is, I just wanted to point out that I'm not preparing for anything). Most of my friends go for comfort unless they know someone will see it, but not me. Even if I'm just changing in front of one of my roommates, I don't want anyone to be all, "Damn, check out the grandma bra on her!" It's the same as my attitude about makeup - I may not have a ton on, but I still don't want anyone going, "What truck ran her over?", even if I have no one to impress. :p I guess I always want to appear pulled-together even if no one else around me is.

I was hanging out with a friend of mine last night and I suggested we run through a drive thru to grab some shakes. She says, "Okay, but I have to put some make-up on." I couldn't understand why she had to put on make-up to go through a drive thru. :o

Girls just don't understand that we like the makeup, but only certain times. I think when you're going out at night it's cool, but during the day I love the all natural thing.

But, see, the thing that guys don't necessarily get (and not all girls are like this), is that for a lot of women, makeup is part of who they are. It's like the guys who do comb-overs in their hair. We know they don't have a full head of hair. They know they don't have a full head of hair. But if it makes them feel better about themselves, god bless them.

Ok, that's a bad example. But you get the idea. It's the same as people coloring their hair or having plastic surgery or working out to lose weight or whatever. Makeup doesn't have the permanence as many other ways you can change your appearance, but in a lot of cases it's just as reflective of how the girl wants to look and how she wants to see herself. I don't think guys necessarily understand that even though you can wash it off, it can be completely tied into a girl's self-image.

So, while we know and appreciate that guys don't completely get it and are more accepting of our looks than we tend to be, for some girls, it's really hard to get to the point where they'll let a guy see them as less-than-perfect (especially if he first showed interest in her when she was all made-up). Some girls are lucky and either have stellar self-images or are naturally beautiful or both. But for others, going without makeup can leave a girl as vulnerable and insecure as if she was standing there completely naked, and I know a lot of girls who'd rather be completely naked than go without makeup.
