greeklawgirl,
Thanks for a terrific explanation. That helps a lot! :) |
Our college sent an announcement to NPC and had it published in the January edition of their newletter that we wanted sororities to present. Seven contacted us and the administrators chose 4 groups to present. One backed out and 3 groups came in the spring.
Of our 2 locals, one chose Phi Mu and one group narrowly voted to stay local. (I think that Phi Mu will kick their butts in rush.)Several people will be leaving that second group to try to form another national and I have heard that a third group is now banding together to approach nationals. Since we have no Panhellenic, neither group would need Panhellenic permission to expand. |
Carnation ... great summary of what happens in an expansion.
In the case of NMSU, the collegiate panhellenic voted in the fall to expand and that information was communicated to the 21 NPC groups not on campus via NPC. Most of the 21 groups responded with interest and were sent packets of information about the campus and the greek system. The NPC groups looked over the expansion information then responded with materials of their own. The expansion committee ( made up of members of each of the 5 NPC chapters) reviewed all the materials that were sent by the NPC groups and decided which 3 groups to invite to come to campus to present. The presentations were made over 3 straight days in the middle of April to the expansion committee and anyone else who wanted to attend. After the presentations, the expansion committee met and voted on which goup to extend the bid to. If you're interested, previously in this thread I posted links to the NMSU greek life newsletter which talks about the process. |
Extension committee
Hey I just came across this post. Here I am on the extension committee at NMSU and I didn't even know that it was a topic of discussion. Interesting. It was a very hard and rewarding process. All three chapters that presented did very well and it was a very tough decision to make(we met every day for at least two hours a day for about a week). :(

thanks...
predawn posting does that to one. as an nmsu alum, i say right on for dg. :D |
Congratulations to DG! It really is a shame, though, that all three couldn't have been chosen to colonize as they're all fantastic organizations. There's no way NMSU could have made a bad choice.

Ok ... I know this is old news but in a sense of closure here's the link to the announcement of Delta Gamma's selection in the NMSU Greek life newpaper GreekSpeak
