I loved the Sweet Valley Twins and High too. The BSC little sister books were kinda corny to me. I had a RACK of the BSC book, including the Super ones. I knew ALL the facts. Are there the same characters now or are there new girls? The last I saw, one old girl left then they got this girl named Abbey.

I don't think there have been any new BSC books for a couple of years. The last one I saw was about Mary Anne's house burning down and new beginnings and then Ann Martin wrote a few really odd books about the same characters (different series) in which some of them really disliked each other (like Stacey and Claudia--because of a boy). At the same time, the new Little Sister books started having disclaimers in front that kind of indicated they were being ghostwritten. Then they all disappeared.

I read online and in Ann Martin's bio that she has health problems due to a spleen removal but it also sounded like she was getting real weird about contact with the public.:(

A lot of the later BSC books indicated that they were being ghostwritten.

The "new beginnings" series was what I was referring to about the new numbering system.

I remember hearing about those books when i was younger, but i wasnt a fan of reading so if i didnt have to, i didnt read it.

Now, being 22 years old, am very interested in reading those books! I might have to go to Barnes & Noble and pick them up! :D

Oh, that's sad about Ann Martin. I really loved those books. And I'm goint to have to check out that new series mess, that sounds crazy. Did they age the girls at all, does anyone know?

I read ALL of Judy Blume's books when I was little. :D Loved them and Beverly Cleary's as well.

Was it Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing where the kid's little brother swallows his pet turtle and his parents buy him a puppy to make up for it?

And was it a Ramona book where she is late for school because her mom tells her to leave at a "quarter past the hour" and she leaves at 25 minutes past because she remembers that a quarter is worth 25 cents? LOL

I only remember bits and pieces of those books now because it's been so long since I picked one up. But Fudge and Ramona's siblings were my favorite characters because of all the stuff they had to put up with. :)

You are correct! I reread this the other night in Ramona the Pest. I am currently rereading Ramona Quimby, age 8 and laughing all over again at Ramona and Beezus' dinner, encounters with Yard Ape and her book report.

Man when I was a kid I LIVED for the Super BSC books! They were so awesome!!! I miss being a kid now b/c it would be so much fun to have the time to read all these books we're talking about instead of reading thick huge somewhat dull textbooks. I remember when I was a kid my mom would take me to the library and I'd check out the maximum number of books, usually a combo of BSC and Judy Blume, and then curl up on my for the rest of the day just reading and enjoying.....ahhh, those were the days. :)

She wrote "Then Again Maybe I Won't" (which was funky, because it was all of that puberty stuff from a *guy's* point of view!), and I know she did "Tiger Eyes"-- is that what you were thinking of?

I'm a middle school librarian (almost done with my MLIS degree, woohoo!), and had to read "Forever" for my YA lit class. *ugh* Absolutely hated it. OF course, I read it as an adult, so the sex stuff didn't have any of the surprise or mystique. I got kind of annoyed/bored with the guy always being horny with her.

But Ramona, oh, those are the *best*. Had to read Ramona the Pest for kid lit. Great stuff. And yes, I always remembered the "quarter of an hour" part of Ramona's life. Heh.

I remember years ago (at least 25) that Judy Blume's Forever was made into a TV movie. I think it was shown on CBS. Don't know if it was ever released on home video, though.

I read DOUBLE FUDGE on Friday and was in tears with laughter @ Fudge and his antics.

Put it on your list for the next time you need a back to childhood flashback moment.

I am headed to the library today to get more childhood favorites.

MooseGirl 03-23-2003 07:13 PM

I know i've read her books....I just don't remember them well.

I was a big fan of BSC. I had 1-40 inclusive plus 5 super specials! Unfortunately I grew out of them really quickly...only collected for 2 years(or less)....then I moved on to bigger things, (litterally, eg,compare 200 page BSC to 1000 "Mists of Avalon" :p)

I am finding that i am becoming more interested in children's lit....besides the fact that i'm a Harry potter fanatic, I recently purchased "The sisterhood of the travelling pants" by Ann Brashares which, if i was 12, would have been a great book - it still made me cry even if it was predictable :p

I think I will def have to check out Judy Blume from the library and reread some of her books....

Fave JB book is Summer Sisters, I had no idea it was that good! I had every one of the BSC series, but I wanted the girls to age a little,I became older than them! Does anyone remember the series on Disney and the movie, we went to see it for my 12th b-day!
