They make hypoallergenic cats now... I think it's $300 for a kitten.. but they do exist.

I thought those were still under development. Where do you get one?

No idea where to get one... Read about it in Popular Science. The article made it sound like it was on the market.

Wait a minute... I don't profess to know a whole lot about animals, but how, pray tell, does one "make" a cat? Can't only cats "make" cats? Or is this a case of scientists experimenting with bio-genetics? And to say that they are "on the market"... LMAO. I feel like we're talking about some potato chips or something. I tell you man, technology is going to be the death of us. I guess I'll have to read up on this to figure out what's really going on.

Girl cats don't produce as many allergens as boy cats... I think some breeds are better than others, but I don't really know anything about which ones or anything.

And on the 2,103,495th day, God created hypoallergenic cats :)

There was a story on NPR a while back about a company whose researchers have identified the gene in cats that creates the protein that 90% of people allergic to cats are reacting to. They are working on genetically engineering cats in which that gene is deactivated. Once they have enough cats, they will breed them the old fashioned way, keep some for breeding, and sell the rest (neutered, of course).

Here's a short blurb: http://search.npr.org/cf/cmn/segment...m?segID=125119

There are also breeds that are less likely to cause an allergic reaction, and I've heard that you can build up a resistance to one cat if you get it as a kitten.
