That's correct. The research that NPC has done suggests that most women wouldn't want their third choice and tend to drop out after two, so all campuses only have 2 events now.

That’s a big drop from 8 to 2 at the end. I guess I’m surprised that they don’t have 3 prefs.

Talk about full frill recruitment...
I went through recruitment in 1970 but heard about 1960s-style full-frill recruitment. NOTHING has topped 1960s style. We're talking skits with elaborate costumes and sets, professionally-written script and songs. Food and drink for rushees (some campuses did full meals for pref), favors that the rushees took home, matching everything for actives for each round. Living rooms made into gardens with fountains and bowers of flowers. Budgets of tens of thousands of $$$.
Nobody today can even imagine it.

I went thru in 1963 - at Alabama. We lucked out that the local fire station was behind our house so the firemen helped with all our props, etc. Skit Day had the whole front of the the 3 story house covered by a wooden cruise ship! Pref was a full blown skit with southern belle gowns. We also had a preference brunch the next day - full food. Nothing like that going on anywhere today.

Man, I wish some chapters had made movies of those frilly rush events! I'd love to see what some of those Broadway performances looked like.

I love data-driven decisions but now I’m a little sad. I wrote an introduction for a girl who is a TriDelta legacy whose best friend is an active ChiO on the same campus. With only 2 prefs she probably won’t pref Alpha Gam. Guess I need to read up a little more to be current!

We did "Showboat". With a massive showboat in the chapter room and magnolias everywhere! We practiced in the spring and during pre-rush week and of course, all the Showboat songs were themed to Pi Phi.

I saw some unreal productions at MS State too.

My Fair Lady. And later Cabaret.

Just a way to keep everybody's spiritis high!

It’s kind of cool! I cannot imagine the amount of work involved in that kind of recruitment for the chapters.

I also cannot imagine how many tshirts each sister accumulates over her four years!

Cookiez17 08-09-2022 03:53 PM

The extras do end up either in big/little baskets or on t-shirt swaps! Most of my shirt collection comes from the latter.

If they’re insistent on that, they should have another round, because going from 8 to 2 is a BIG drop and I as a rushee would feel awfully disempowered.* JMHO.

*Yes, I realize they pretty much are in a rush this large, but I would really like to see the receipts on this one.

shadokat 08-10-2022 02:02 PM

Schools that have similar formats/amounts to drop:

- Auburn 18-13-8-2
- Georgia 19-14-8-2
- Iowa State 15-11-7-2
- Florida State 17-12-7-2
- Florida 18-13-8-2
- Purdue 20-14-8-2
- Illinois 19-13-7-2
- Washington 18-13-8-2

I believe NPC says the smallest drop should be after the first round for PNMs in the MOI.

RFM was researched for years before it was installed. It works. With large campuses having to have 2 or 3 days for a single round, adding another round would make recruitment 2 weeks long. That won't work at all!

Vice reportedly making Alabama sorority rush documentary; university says ‘surreptitious filming’ is ‘deplorable’

This is the only sorority documentary I know about.

Seeing that the university and APA are clamping down, who knows if this'll ever see the light of day.
