:D One of my favorite mixer themes other then the grafitti party that eeryone seems to mention is an "eat me- lay me" mixer. It is where the guys have hawaiian laies around there necks and the irls have candy necklaces around there's. When the guy eats off the last prt of a girls candy necklace then he gives her his lei. It is always a lot of fun especially toward the end of the night. It is also real good if you are doing it with a fraternity or sorority that you don't know all too well. It gets people talking so that they don't feel so awkward basically kissing the irls neck;)

There's a couple that I remember that are a lot of fun...Tie functions are great, what happens is each guy brings a tie and throws it in a bag or a box, then each girl picks a tie out of the box and gets tied to that guy for the night (wrist to wrist). You have to stay together as long as you can, the last couple to be tied together wins. Another one of my favorites is a money function - the fraternity or sorority hosting it makes up a bunch of fake money (or just use monopoly money) and each person gets a specific amount when they show up, and the person with the most money at the end of the night wins. You get money by having people pay you to do stuff, it gets pretty crazy sometimes!

PADDY MURPHY! A week long blast, everyone always looks forward to it! Also I havent yet participated, but friends have told me how much fun the grafitti parties are. I dont know so far this year we have had a few TGIT's (thank god its thursday-big party night at KU) with a couple sororities but they dont seem much fun, not as much interaction as there should be. I def. think themes help out!

Ok well we never got a chance to do this mixer b/c well they canceled it b/c of study hours :( but I know it would have been awesome...it was a Singled out theme you know that old MTV show :) I hope we get to do it sometime though it seemed like soo much fun :)

I was tossing some ideas around with my social chair and she had one that I've never heard of but it would be a lot of fun. Have a Sigma's (or insert your letter here) Only party. That means that only houses (both fraternities and sororities) with a Sigma (or one of your letters) can come. If we did a Sigma's Only party on our campus, we would be the only sorority, so we thought about a Kappa's Only Party (which would be us and 3 other sororities, and half the fraternities) The only problem is finding a space big enough to do it in. We recently heard of a couple houses having a "We're the Best" social, and apparently it was kept under pretty tight wraps b/c we didn't know about it until some people on campus started wearing shirts... I guess it was a couple of Houses that felt that they were the best and needed to have a mixer with other "best" houses.
Oh, and I had never heard of the "Eat me/Lei me" before, but I love the idea! |
socials
I am the social chair for my chapter and I have been looking for new things to do. We have our semesterly crush parties, we actually call them KD kisses or pledge preview. then we have socials like karaoke social, kd lai-which is a beach house party, cruise casino, paintball, ice skating, slip and slide, grab-a-date, get-a-way(we went whitewater rafting in TN), fun in the sun (jet skiing and out door stuff) mystery social (which is always a mystery to the chapter) and country line dancing. But, out with the old and in with the new...give me new ideas!!!

Our house usually had a theme called "Loggers Brawl" which we are thankfully bringing back next year. Lumber Jack theme inculding slided on the stairs and stuff like that. However, a couple people have scavenger hunts here and last year they came and were suppose to get the wierdest thing they could. One group of girls we gave a broken door that someone busted down, and another group we gave a broken microwave. Turns out they were form the same house and the microwave won. I'm sure that was a good sisterhood. We also had a Mud Bowl last year involving Alpha Phi. But they couldn't do it again this year after their advisor found out. That sucked. As you can see by the movie here:
Theta Xi - Alpha Phi Mud Bowl 2001 Its a great example of a dry party. Don't recommend a flour based mud though. Chocolate Pudding works well. You should definately get a hot tub as well, but be sure to spray people off thouroughly before getting into the tub. Just some ideas. |
My favorite Mixer by far was the one we did last fall called "Hey Sister! Pick My Mister!" Each of us paried up with one other sister...we each found a date for the other. (And if you had a b/f, then you would just invite him). Then, we all met in our suite and introduced everyone. After that, we headed to a Haunted House in Nashville called "Slaughterhouse". We had such a good time, screaming and running around like little kids! And, since the majority of the guys were in fraternities, we've made some great friends and connections. (Plus the shirt was really cool!) Then, at this year's greek awards, one of the awards we won was "Most Creative Non-Alcoholic Social". It was just the icing on the cake for us!
Blaire Delta Zeta ...Lighting the Paths of Friendship since 1902 |
My favorite mixers have been Pimp's 'N Ho's and Room's Parties. We are having a Room's Party this Saturday with Lambda Chi...should be a really fun time. My sorority is making Strip 'N Go Naked for our room...yummy :)

My tie (not Mai Tai)
We had a My tie party where we drew names of other girls from our pledge class and had to talk to their friends/roommates if we didn't know their crush or whatever and went to ask him if he would like to go with her (as if he wouldn't!) and then for one of his ties she wore the tie to the designated place and had to wait for him to approach her asking for his tie back -hence the name My tie. It was lots of fun though. (We had ours on Valentines Day).

Handy Andy Party
Here's an idea for a simple inexpensive mixer. We did it last night actually and it was amazing. We called it the Handy Andy, but the Easy Ryder was also used. Rent a Ryder truck (bigger the better) and park it out in the parking lot. Get some couches and other chairs and stuff and put it in the back. Get a stereo and plug it into the house with an extension cord. Then... the most important thing, some liqs. Now it is very simple in theory, and if you close the back door, its not loud at all. Also, if you run out of liqs, get someone sober to drive the truck down to the store. Okay so here are some important things to remember about this part. Couches will move. Things will fall over. But it could have been the coolest thing ever. Don't knock it till you try it.

A few other really fun mixers
Each chapter in the social writes on a piece of paper something they would like to see someone else dresses as (ie tooth fairy) and then each person must draw a costume and come dressed as that- it makes for a LOT of interesting costumes... Designating a letter such as a B and everyone must come as something starting with a B - bug, banana... you get the drift. A no cup party where everyone must be inventive and find something other than a cup to drink out of such as a coconut... anything that doesn't serve as a cup but you can functionally drink out of. |
*The "MILFS and Poolboys" theme was fun...
*I loved the Day-Glo (when you dress all in white, show up to the frat house and run around throwing paint, water, and shaving cream at each other...dangerous but fun...the bleached blondes have pink hair the next day and everyone has bruises, but it's worth it!) *A classic: Dirty Old Men and Schoolgirls. The guys look hilarious! Lots of fake facial hair, canes with mirrors on the bottom...good stuff *Something I didn't go on but would have loved to: KA's Old South. It is such a big deal at my school. The guys wear Confederate uniforms and the girls have huge Southern Belle gowns...the guys go announcing to sorority girls that have been invited and declare them "Dixie Darlings"...they drive up to somewhere in Georgia? Is it SC? I don't know...somewhere south...and go on a riverboat and party on a plantation... |
For our pledge party for all the sisters, my pledge class threw a Barbie party. All the sisters came dressed as their favorite Barbie dolls. It was a lot of fun and we got some great pictures out of it!There are also TONS of options for decorations and favors!!!
