gamma phi omega- lake forest college

gamma phi omega was founded in 1988 at Lake Forest College. the founders found a picture of the former gamma phi beta chapter in an old yearbook and were inspired to create a new local - hence the "gamma phi" tribute - and the omega personalized it.

colors: pink and blue
crest: it had several panels, but i only remember that one had chain links for the bonds of friendship. and another had daisies, and one represented scholarly pursuit, i think.

in 2004, all three local sororities on campus went national. we became delta gamma (woo!), and the others became kappa alpha theta and tri-delta.

Very interesting. Am I correct in reading that there were two locals founded at Rhode Island College last year?

Yes, you are correct and there is a third in the works! :D

Very exciting! Good luck to all the groups! It sounds like there was definitely a strong need not being met at RIC. I'm originally from MA so I love hearing about new chapters & organizations in the area.

Do all the orgs plan to stay local?

Thank you!! :) Zeta plans on remaining local for now but we would like to expand to other campuses in the future. As far as the other two sororities, Sigma Iota Theta and Phi Theta Psi (in the works), I am not sure what there plans are.

Now all we need to do is bring some fraternities to campus! LOL. :)

PHI EPSILON ALPHA
Founding Date:
April 1, 1976 by 12 former members of Delta Zeta (Theta Mu chapter)
Flower: The Daisy
Colors: Navy Blue & White
Jewel: Diamond
Mascot: Tropical Fish
Elements: Silver & Gold

We were founded when Delta Zeta's nationals did some rearranging of the executive board and some of the women were not happy with that. Twelve of those women went on to found Phi Ep. Some DZ alum also assisted those women in creating the sorority, and one even got kicked out soon after. Hearing the story (FROM two of our founders and the DZ alum) made it so much more meaningful to be local! I love it!

Aw your colors and symbols are different, and a pretty combination.

I've wondered, how is the climate for local sororities in the South where Nationals are so popular. I'm in a local in a Northeast State school, locals are in the majority, and our classes are very small.
