A little updating to this post...

I am an ADPi from The University of Akron and my father is a Phi Kappa Tau from Akron. My younger sister pledged last spring...not ADPi to my dismay...but we are all happy for her! She is an AXO from Miami University in Ohio.

It's so funny how all that works out AkronADPi. there was this girl who rushed who had us and Pi Phi as her last two parties and ended up joining Pi Phi. She was from Macon, Georgia (which is where ADPi was founded, for all of you who probably don't know that)!! Anyway, she is awesome, and we remained pretty good friends and she told me a year later her little sister rushed at a school in Georgia and ended up going ADPi. I thought that was kinda funny. I said, " See it was just destiny that someone in your family be an ADPi." :D
I don't have any brothers or sisters. Neither my mom or dad went to a college with a Greek system. My kids will hopefullly want to be Greek. I havent met Mr. Right yet, so maybe my husband will one day be a fraternity man. That'd be cool. My junior year of college, I found out my aunt was a Kappa Kappa Gamma and my grandpa was a Lambda Chi Alpha.
Something I was thinking about earlier: I always thought I'd be so die hard ADPi that my daughter would never have another choice, until this one situation happened. I hope this story doesn't cross any lines, but I wont' mention the other chapter. A girl who rushed this last year had us and XYZ (to which she was a legacy throughher mom) as her two pref parties. She joined XYZ. I saw her a few weeks later and she said she wished she could've joined ADPi but her mom wouldn't have paid for ANYTHING (not even school anymore) if she had gone anything else. She ended up being miserable. I don't want that to happen to my daughter someday. So maybe I'll just strongly encourage her, but not FORCE. : ) Just my random thoughts. :)

I've probably mentioned this elsewere but my baby sister joined Gamma Phi Beta last year..... at my school no less. It is someways kinda cool, and in other ways a little weird (think mixers).

I think I had the reverse effect in the sense that I think my antics have convinced my family to not join IFC or panhellenic. One cousin is joining an Asian sorority, and my other cousin is considering Kappa Kappa Psi once he's in college.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought no one was supposed to know? We had no idea that the guy who dropped our house was pledging Sigma until he had his letters, and he said he wasn't allowed to tell anyone.

I should also ask Starang, the NPHC is the fastest growing council out here. Has Iota ever thought of expanding to SDSU, or do they have a metro chapter here? They were the only ones from the D9 who didn't step at the last show.

Oh, I understand perfectly!!! We had a five-generation legacy rush our chapter. She did not want to go greek (she only rushed us), but of course, she was pushed into going ADPi by her mother, two aunts, and her grandmother who was then one tier away from Grand Council (and probably the ghosts of two prior generations!). Anyhow, she was a miserably unhappy pledge, and we were informed that she would be initiated at Convention, rather than at our chapter. Convention Initiation being as grand as it seems, she transferred to a school without a greek system immediately afterwards, and her name doesn't even appear in any of the alumnae undate books.

I highly doubt that there will be a six-generation legacy from her - but stranger things have happened! :)

My older sister (4 years older) was a Kappa at the same school I went to (Iowa State.) I got to know so many girls in the chapter because of her and, though I think I would have been okay elsewhere, I'm really glad I'm a Kappa. We have some similar personality traits, but were very different otherwise.

honeychile We did too! (only I think ours was only a 4-generation leg. She said somewhere a few cousins had gone Pi Phi and were practically disowned! ;)). She was a sweetheart, but I think she felt very pushed into Kappa. I was one of the girls who talked to her at Pref night (because noone else wanted to--they were scared) and she later confessed that I was the reason she joined! *tear* She stayed in all four years, and now her younger sister is a Kappa at our chapter, too! :)

My sister crossed Zeta in the Spring of 1993 and myself in Spring of 2000.:D

Both of my siblings are greek!!

My younger sister is an AOII also, she was initiated at the same chapter I was in. I think she had a lot of pressure - not from me but from everyone who knew me - even in other chapters - everyone just assumed she was going AOII - I'm really glad she did and probably would have killed her if she hadn't but I wish she really would have felt more like she had a choice - although it has worked out great - our grandmother was an AOII, and just this month, my sister and I were able to witness our mother initiated as an AOII!! that was awesome - i figure now i can haze my mom !!!

My daughter will now be a 4th generation legacy (plus an auntwho is an AOII too) - she already has an AOII bib and jumper - no pressure!! She was born the night of our convention's formal dinner - she was late and made me miss convention - but i was excused as they decided having a little legacy was a good enough reason to miss - and her middle name is Rose as she was born during the middle of Rose Banquet - everyone was glad i stayed home as i was supposed to be song leader and that might have been a little too much excitement for the evening - THe XB and some past officers think i planned it on purpose so the little legacy would feel extra special! I'll feel bad for the sister who has to rush her when that day comes in like 17.5 years!!!

well that is off the subject - but additionally my brother is Delta Tau Delta and i love his brothers - they are very sweet and polite around me (even during the UF vs FSU game!)- but they also know how to have a good time!!!

I like sharing that bond with them!

I'm so glad that it worked out for y'all!! I will always feel bad about the sister I'd rather not name. She just really didn't want to be a greek, and she was so forced into it!

I was really excited when my sister decided to join a sorority. I never pushed her to join mine, but I did encourage her to consider joining a sorority--find the one that best fits her. I was so excited when she chose Alpha Xi Delta. I love being able to share it with her. Sometimes it gets hard having my biological sister in the same chapter because I am a senior and have done everything... and she is just learining everything...sometimes I will be advising her and teaching her as a older sister of AXID and she has taken it that I'm just being a pushy biological sister. I am so happy that my sister chose to join my sorority-- I hope that she will one day get as much out of Alpha Xi Delta that I have.

two of my little sisters are seniors this year!
One says she doesn't think she wants to rush as a freshman (she's gonna be a d-1 athlete and wants to make sure she'll have time)
and the other is either going to iu or to my school, at iu she is a legacy twice, AXD and DZ,
but i do really want her to come to my school, I would love to have my sister in my chapter! I know she'll be good for any chapter so where ever she fits i'll be happy for her!
