When i was taking campus tours before my senior year of HS the tour guide at Nebraska told us that their chemistry building is built in such a way that should an explosion ever occur, the building will implode on itself to prevent the chemicals from escaping.

There was also one there about a haunted bell tower or something.

how bout it? any Cornhuskers out there able to verify these?

In reference to the Theo from Road Rules questions... he did go to LSU for his gundergraduate degree. He is a complete idiot. he used to write this entertainment column for the school paper, but it stunk. I saw him at the rec center nearly every day though, and he was sure hot.

Another LSU rumor: They named a cement square in front of the law school George because a law student killed himself there once. He flunked all of his law finals. So now, it's rumored that if you step on George, you'll fail all of your next round of tests. It's funny though. Fraternities paint the square with their letters and docrazy stuff to it.

Actually the rumor is that if law students step on George, they'll flunk out. Considering LSU Law had an attrition rate of 35% at one point, it was pretty scary.

Tomorrow is my first day there! I didn't take any chances and step on him while I was in UG. And since all the classes are in the new building in back, I've got no reason to go near him now :)

Georgetown Rumors, Truths, and Superstitions

1) If you step on the Seal (a mosaic of the school seal on the ground), you won't graduate on time. It's actually more of a respect thing.

2) Famous people's children that have or did go to GU recently: Avery Brooks (Captain Benjamin Cisco from Star Trek), Diana Ross, Kurt Russell, Susan Lucci, Donald Trump.

3) Georgetown DOES have a series of tunnels beneath the school, but I don't think it's true that one leads all the way to the Capitol building.

4) The main building of the campus does have an inaccessible fifth floor that the school swears is for storage now, but used to be offices, and before then was dorm space. There is a lot of speculation as to what it is now. . .I think they even say someone died up there. . .

Wow, very interesting!

Have you ever went into any of the tunnels?

If I went to GT I probably would've tried to access that fifth floor just out of curiousity.

1. Parking passes may be less expensive next year.

2. You will fall in love with the person you kiss on the wooden bridge at the top of the hill.

3. Free tuition if you're hit by a car on a crosswalk.

Fun Thread!

Lawrence University, Appleton, Wisconsin...

Was supposed to have been Chelsea Clinton's second-choice college.

Has several buildings that are sliding down the bluff into the Fox River...oh wait, that one's true.

Has a president with 4 titanium joints

Has trees planted along the bottom of Union Hill not for aesthetic purposes but to keep students from falling into the Fox River when they sled down the hill on cafeteria trays in January. The part about the cafeteria trays is true, half the fun is sneaking them out of the dining hall.

LU doesn't have a virgin rumor, but the University of Illinois does. There's a statue of a woman standing in front of a chair with her arms outstretched. If a virgin ever graduates, the statue will sit down.

LSU has the legend that you will marry the person that you kiss on the steps of the clock tower as the clock strikes midnight. In fact, campus programming has staged an event where they get couples to kiss on the steps at midnight, to try and get a group together that's large enough to break the world's record for the most people kissing.

My boy and I were there - and the way things are going it looks like the legend is true! :D

More Northwest Missouri State stuff...

Your posts reminded me of some more...

*If you step on the university seal underneath the bell tower you'll either not graduate or never have sex again...don't know which one it is for sure but both would suck

*If you are hit by a car in a crosswalk, you get free tuition

*There are more squirrels roaming campus than students at any given time. Also, there is supposedly an albino squirrel running around campus too.

*Northwest also has some sort of kissing bridge tradition. Don't know what it is though.

*We actually do have a university president. Even though no one has ever seen him before, I hear he does exist. :p ;)

AggieSigmaNu361-
I remember hearing something like that when I toured at UNL too. Who knows though...I was near the back of my tour group of about 20  so I didn't hear half of the tour.

The only two I can think of for my campus is that (10) the admin bldg has emergency express elevators that go from the presidents offices to the parking under the building so he can escape in case of a riot. and..

(2) the stairs are built (really hard to walk up in a stride, they are really deep and shallow) so that a tank can make it up into the buildings in case of a riot. Did I mention that our campus was built in 73 during Viet Nam?

Oh and the guy that numbered the rooms was a genius and died before he could explain it. (the are three sets of numbers, first set is floor, second is corridor and third is room, so if your English class was listed as 2.03.35, that would mean its on the second floor, third corridor, room 35....uterly confusing for first time freshman, thats why its SO fun on the first day of school.)

We have the friendliest squirels in America....

The reason we don't have a football team is due to an agreement when Little Rock University became UALR and entered the University of Arkansas system... something about competition with Fayetteville (ducks the blows from the Razorbacks)

But Britney Spears was never suposed to go here... in fact, when I lived in Louisiana, one of her cousins went to LTU and she said if Britney ever went to college it would be LSU.

There was a rumor at the University of Iowa back in the day... My best friend lived on the top floor of one of the old dorms. There was a mysterious room down the hallway -- one of those doors that never opens, of a room that nobody ever enters. Of course the speculation was that people had died in the room, and the University kept it closed off because of the creepiness. One time, there were some film students up there making a movie about the room, and they had it all opened up and everything. I don't even remember what was in the room, but it wasn't much. The story had something to do with a disgruntled lover or love triangle and a murder/suicide or something like that.

Funny how it seemed so darn fascinating at the time, and now I can't even remember the details. I wonder what that room is used for now, if anything...

Oh, and there was also the rumor that the A D Pi house was a drive in bank (not true) and that the Sigma Kappa house was a tuberculosis hospital (true, I think, but SK is no longer on campus).

At Muhlenberg, the top floor of Brown Hall dorm is supposedly haunted. If you stare at the top floor of that building, there is a room with a blue light inside but no one can find the entrance to that room. Supposedly the third floor of that building is haunted with the ghost of a student who hung himslef back in the 1800s when Muhlenberg was a military academy

Our president was recently fired and there are alot of rumors going around about why.

Another rumor is that our school keeps buying hawks to keep the squirrel population down but they keep flying away.

At UVM where my little brother goes to school, there's a spot on campus where you must get kissed otherwise you will never marry and die alone.

*Ur not a "real freshmen" until u get kissed in the gazebo near Maxwell Hall.. I never kissed in the Gazebo and I'm about to be a Sophomore.
