Sairose, I agree with you!

Maybe I'm odd or I just don't get it, but I really have bigger things in life to worry about than someone wearing a greek t-shirt. I think there's a difference between someone picking up a t-shirt and wearing it without knowing that the letters mean something, and someone going around pretending to be a member of an organization. I'm only going to waste my precious time being bothered by the latter.

My friend said he saw a dude with an AKA jacket on and I've seen a guy with a Delta Sigma Theta jacket on. I don't understand it but I didn't think it was my place to say anything.

Were they line jackets? That's weird as hell...if you're going to perp, at least perp the right gender. :p

enlightenment06 06-25-2003 09:21 PM

Yep. They were line jackets. As Morpheus said "unbelieveable, isn't it?"

Yeah, that is just . They better hope they don't run into the wrong people with that stuff on.

And you're worried about someone like this giving your GLO a "bad name"?

YOU give YOURSELVES a bad name by being so proud of your GLO that you'd rather throw away a shirt, etc than let someone who truly needs clothes wear it.

If someone really needed clothes, and I had some old SAI shirts, I would let them wear them. Yes, I am VERY proud of my sorority...but there comes a point when you can be TOO proud.

What do your GLOs teach you? I suspect about love, kindness, helping those in need...and yet you go against this by being so selfish that you don't want a HOMELESS lady wearing your letters.

Disgusting!

I agree. I couldn't believe some of the stuff that was being said in this thread. If I'm not going to wear a shirt anymore, I'd rather have it go to someone who needs it than to rip it up and have them go shirtless. Nobody's going to think that the homeless lady down on the street is actually a Tri Delta. It's not reflecting badly on my organization. In fact, if you actually took the time to think about it, it's reflecting well on my organization because I donated clothes to the homeless rather than only thinking of myself.

I do agree with GeekyPenguin, though, that there's a difference between a homeless woman and the random girl in my English discussion section.

Well, the most logical thing I could think of is maybe that was their S.O's jacket or maybe a parent's?

Exactly. I think it reflects well on a GLO if they donate their shirts to someone who truly needs clothes.

I do agree that people that are just trying to look cool should have no right to wear letters.

But...come on, people!

In addition, I don't think it's too kind to absolutely humiliate someone for wearing the letters. It's a good idea to point out to them (NICELY!!!) that what they're doing isn't cool...but humiliating someone? No.

Yep! What you said.

To all of those disgusted with my post. I'm sorry if my post offended anyone. However, as I earlier said this woman was shopping in the mall with a distinct hate for a shirt she was wearing. She ended up spending well over what a homeless person would.....there for she wasn't homeless. So I'm sorry if my post upset anyway and made people disgusted. My goal is not to create enemies on GC.

Daisy, I don't think it was your post at all - we've reached a consensus that the woman in your situation was just wrong. As usual, we got off on a GCtangent.

Oh and I did not embarass or say anything hateful to the woman.
