It burns me up as well to know how many of these renegades are out there for all D9 orgs. Ofen they are the ones bringing shame to our names and danger to prospects. They are the ones crossing the ghost line and creating new renegades to buy into their BS. How can you be all about an organization you DON"T EVEN BELGNG TO?:confused: And the fact that somewhere this group began with dually initiated memebers who have chosen to pass on our respective confidential info breaks my heart. At my undergrad many of the frats were composed of non existant members who pledged one year and maybe got a memebrship card officially down the line (then agian, maybe not) At the time I did not realize what was going on. Once it became clear I was like WTF??

i've meet my share of perps on the net, they are like roaches, all over the place and they scatter fast when you bring them to light.

signs of a perp they were made at some unknown school Mickey Mouse University, they pledged solo and moved after graduation (how convenient), if they are crazy they will challenge you with some wack mess, lol, to throw you off (go figure)

to catch a perp ask them regional info (they won't know)
invite them to a chapter meeting (they will always be busy)
have them over for an all soror get to gather (they won't show)

in real life its so easy to catch a perp, but on the net, well that's just srt8 drama.

perps do a disservice to themselves and really have emotional issues that i'm sure spill out into other areas of their life. even a child recognizes a fool.

It was like that with fraternities at my school as well....Most of them became 'official' with the next line; however, according to my friend (who was amongst the non-National HQ recognized brother of his frat), some never did...unless they went through the grad chapter much later on.

I've heard of this 'big' problem with sororities only in the last few years.....it's crazy!!!!! For some unknown reason members think that it's OK...she's still one of 'us' because she went through a 'process'....and these crazy interested women think...if I'm recognized by members of that chapter...I'm a Soror....they don't realize that this is a life long committment and that yeah, you may be recognized on that campus...but you can't register for regionals, boule', cluster or etc.....you can't even get any of our official publications......

Interest....DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE!!!!

The sad part is these same folks who did this "process" but cannot be official, if found out, will NEVER be official... And usually it is due to GPA and units...

It behooves GA's to block that chit from jump... And actually find it laughable when negroes choose to remain ignorant... It looks as if it is like when our High Schoolers fail their classes, 'cuz they don't look cool no more... In fact there IS this whole gang-member mentality that is generated in high school, and when these fools get into college--barely--they just connect with PDQ fraternity or XYZ sorority 'cuz of colors!!! Somehow, all the D9's need to DEMAND background checks BEFORE rushes!!! Otherwise, when I background on a girl, I'm illegal, 'cuz I'm not s'pose to be figuring what kinda FAMILY environment she comes from!!! I'm not s'pose to be ASKING about EXACT GPA until Rush--but I ask a ROUND about number--like a 3.0 or above preferably :eek:...

I think there are hidden WAYS one can corraborate stories... The Corporate world does it all the time--WhaChu think they are discussin' on the Fairway...:rolleyes: So sometime, we may have to use combined tactics, and it helps when the D9 chapters are on speaking terms... And I always backup my SOURCES during my private investigations--so, as of now, I hope no faker has fooled me!!!

I hope ya'll don't mind if I insert myself into your thread and ask an ignorant question ... I've never heard much about folks masquerading as members of NPC sororities, except occasionally for someone who was unhappy at being kicked out. Is this a common problem for NPHC sororities?

FuzzieAlum - There's nothing wrong with your question. It's not ignorant at all. There is a distinctive cultural difference between the black and non-black community. Our Divine 9 greek letter organizations are icons of leadership and social status in our community. Our cultural heritage is deeply rooted in these organizations. Membership in our organizations does not end in college. For many of us, membership may not even begin until after college. Our memberships are life-long. So, as our orgs are icons of leadership and social status, much of one's acceptance in our community is dictated by the org that you belong to.

(I want to make sure that I don't say that the wrong way, because there are a number of people who will argue with me that membership in a greek letter org does not dictate one's "status" or "acceprtance", however, I beg to differ with that opinion - I don't necessarily agree that it "should" be that way, but it's just the way it is.)

So, much of this is why we have so many perps. Some people out there are dying to belong - and will go to whatever extreme necessary to do so.

However, there is a difference b/w those individuals that just fake the funk and individuals that are 'ghost' (as the young ones say). Both are perpetrators.....They both make me completely sick to my stomach!:mad:

However, the later may 'perp' because someone within our illustrious organizations 'made' them feel and/or told them that they were one of 'us'. Therefore, this person feels as though he/or she is 'one' of us or the 'next best thing' even though she's not on our National roster. For straight fakers...I guess as Soror Prayfull has stated...they just want to emulate greatness....its flattering as well as sad that someone would go to such great lengths to do this.....

At anyrate....if you ever run into me and you are either of the above, be prepared to go toe-to-toe with our National office....'cause I will turn your little raggedy tail in. I'm not going to argue with you...I'm not going to discuss the matter any further...I'm not going to snatch you out of my letters (contrary to popular belief -- the D9 aren't glorified gang members). I'm just going to get your information....turn you in(and if you are 'ghost'...I'll get the name of the members involved and turned them in as well), and wait for your name to be announced as someone who can never be part of my illustrious organization at our Boule' (National Convention)....That's enough for me:mad:

To add to what my sorors stated, most of the NPHC D9 groups truly DO elevated one within there respective communities, just as much as you see the mainstream IFC and NPC group affiliation--ALL of the United States Presidents within 20th century and including Dubya were and are members of a few select fraternities... It goes the same route as that movie Skulls... Once you are in, your social class is set for life... Only difference is if someone decides to leave by becoming inactive, well, in AKA, we don't like it, but we don't chastise them...

Oh, if someone chooses to leave my sorority (or any NPC sorority) or to become inactive, we don't chastise them! That's their own personal decision to make. Now if someone is kicked out, it's pretty likely that their former sisters won't have much use for them, because it takes some pretty nasty behavior before you're kicked out, but even then I've seen there are some former sisters who will stand behind them.

I have been interested in Alpha Kappa Alpha for almost 10 years now and nothing would make happier than becoming a member but WHY go through the time and energy of perpetuating?? It's serious but it's not that serious when it comes to sorority membership. Why risk a dream on lies and deceit?? I've seen some perps of other organizations be "discovered" and it wasn't very pretty. In particular, I know of one guy about 5 years ago who was "King Kappa". I mean, this boy could twirl the kane with the best of 'em. Everytime you saw him he had on some kind of Nupe gear...it was really sad that in the end, he was nothing but a big perp who ended up getting his butt beat.

Is it that hard to join an organization through the proper channels like networking and researching? To me, a perp is just a lazy wannabe with no patience..and who doesn't know any better.

Are most of the perps that you have met older or younger?

It's been my experience that these people are usually missing a few screws before they get to college, and this is a chance to "reinvent" themselves.

Personally, I have encoutered or heard stories of perps of all ages.

Personlly, I don't think I have met any perps. But the thought of an older woman perping is pretty sad. To me it is an indcation that the woman has not learned to value her own achievements and, thus, feels as though she must pretend to be something that she is not in order to feel proud. In that way, a younger woman perping is just a bit more understandable, because sometimes younger women have not reached a level of maturity in which they recognize their true accomplishments as valid and significant. To me, it is a reflection of immaturity and low self-worth.
