Sorhors and Sisterfriends,
Sorhors you did a wonderful job representing us and I really enjoyed watching them break down those blue-ti-ful steps. To the ladies of Zeta Phi Beta you did a great job and congrats! I don't think that BET needs to host any more step shows since they really don't know what their doing. Serioussigma22:cool: |

I guess we all like to be treated fairly ;) If you get my drift..... |
Truly. .
Actually, I must back my linesister PrettyKitty on this one. The coordinator for the BET show told myself and our other 7 team members that some threating emails, phonecalls, etc. were received. However, I'm feeling your point about being treated fairly but from her standpoint, everyone was.
As for BET hosting anymore stepshows. .I think they need to take a 1-2 year hiatus to really get it organized and running smoothly. Is that even possible at BET? lol. .:) |

I agree 100%. At first I didn't understand why many greeks on here would disagree to the stepoff but now I see why. As I saw in another thread, the D9 was put on TV to be Sambos. Shuck and jive so our viewers can watch what they perceive greek life is all about. AJ even said the show would cause girls to want to "pledge" a sorority. Face it-- this atrocity even had members of SGRho call and make demands for them to rectify the voting calamity that happened last Friday. I think stepshows should stay on the yard and out of the national media. SexzZeta and PrettyKitty, you and your team did a wonderful job on BET. Your performance was very professional IMO, and please don't be offended by my remarks. I just think BET saw this in the wrong light and the show your sorority and all of the D9 did means so much more to your respective orgs. than just a sideshow for the public. For example, there will be girls who would want to join XYZ because they step so good. Could anyone say they will consider including someone into their org. just by their stepping abilities? Ican see it now..."I want to join XYZ because I am able to step and I know you all want good steppers in your org. so your team will be tight for the BET Stepoff!":D :D ok, i'll stop my rambling here... |

Rockie, you know I love like a real sister :) ...Everyone in my opinion was treated fairly......but that is what we were told and were given that as the reason that your Sorors were put back into the competition. Whatever the controversy, I think BET handled it well when they said "we tied"...and your Sorors did well...I think everyone is to be commended on their performances. |
The truth
1. BET did not handle business and violated their own contract.
2. Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc. handled business. 3. We were put back into the competition. BET doesn't give a rat's behind about idle threats. They would not cave in behind a bunch of emails and phone calls from us. Don't believe everything you hear. Especially from BET, who you guys were gearing up to boycott not even a year ago. :D TRSimon |
Re: The truth
At this point Sister Soror, it's a moot point. But from what we were told by the AKA who organized the show, she was personally threatened and based upon the preponderous of all that went on they decided last minute to add the Rho team to the show. I am not sure what contract you are referring to, because no where in the contract that I am looking at does it state how the show was to be voted on or the winner selected. All of that was decided and agreed upon word of mouth by BET and the teams.
To us (the Zeta team) it was not that serious. We were just out to represent our Sorority and have fun while doing it. We had no idea who won the online voting thing until after asking for it to be stopped to give us enough time to prepare our journey from VA to NYC in the event that we won. We had fully decided if we lost to move on and be happy with our performance. So, it just so happened that we won and then again with the overall competition. All and All I was happy with the performances. Now as far as the boycotts...from what I was told that came from the NPHC execs not the actual organizations and the letter went out w/o their approval. And that is why there was no boycott. Quote:

Sisterfriends and Greeks in General,
Please don't call us Rho we are the ladies of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. and our founders put Sigma First for a reason. I'm not trying to be rude or even cruel but I do take offense to being called Rho. I will always be a blue-ti-ful lady of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. I'm very serious about the usage of my sorority's full name! Serioussigma22:cool: |

Sister Soror, when I said moot point, I meant that it's not going to change what happen now. And I since I had a signed contract in hand, I just wanted to clarify for ya....but it's all good. I still love yall. And as far as the Sigma Gamma Rho vs. SGRho vs. Rho vs. Sigma thing...All I would say about that is consistency...I have had your Sorors not have a problem with it and some who did...so I would say that to each their own...and sorry if I have offended you. |
DISCLAIMER: This is the opinion of one person.NOT all memebrs of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. Remember, everyone is intitled to their own opinion. Don't judge everyone by it.
Okay, I usually don't respond to these type of discussions but I personally tired of the hatred. WE, DIVINE NINE, WERE FOUNDED TO HELP OUR COMMUNITIES TO ADVANCE. What are we doing now? We are fighting over a stepshow that was poor organized by a company that is not afflicated with us. Yes, BET did a horrible job in organizing this event. So, what do we do about? Angry and putting down another organization is not going to solve the problem. What avenues can we go about to correct this issue. Could we jointly host an stepshow showcasing our talents? With the stepshow, could there be a information given about each organization's national programs and history (more than just a minute)? Why don't we use the education that we have received at our institutions of higher learning and create a proposal? Let's do something jointly. It's somethimes hard to have some outside of your community organize an event when they don't know enough about it. Some people judge us by what they hear in the news or by movies like School Daze. There is more we can offer. Instead of fighting, let's come together and create solution to the situation. DON'T BE PART OF THE PROBLEM. BE PART OF THE SOLUTION. That's just my .22 cents. |
Good point Virtuosity2001! I have grown soooooo weary of all the bickering. I have so much RESPECT for ALL of the NPHC orgs. (and any other community service org. for that matter) for what they stand for and for what they represent to so many of the communities and lives that they touch around the WORLD. When you look at what we do (or are supposed to be DOING) from this perspective - BET's stepshow seems so small in comparison. In the words of that great gospel group take 6--"Spread Love"!! Only what we do for CHRIST is going to last anyway!!
Remember BLUETIFUL SoRHOrs and my beautiful sisterfriends.... It's all about "Greater Service, Greater Progress"!!!! Let's remain true to our respective organizations mottos -- the rest does not matter! |
Unique97, although, I am not a member of any Greek organization....I just wanted to say that was well said..And, that some members of an organization should focus more on what their founder's focused on and not who stepped the best on BET...
