My chapter of Order of Omega sponsors a couple of receptions for those who have the highest GPAs in their chapters. We also co-sponsor the end of the year Greek Awards banquet.
I think the big problem with it at my school, along with other schools is that, by design, it's made up of the leaders of their respective GLOs....and, at least in my case, as in most others, I'm going to pick my Kappa Sig stuff over my Order of Omega stuff any day of the week. That's not to say that I blow off Order of Omega; I applied for it, and I help out when I can, but the point is that my fraternity comes first. Collin also....i'm the only guy in my chapter here at BU....kinda weird |
What exactly is the Order of Omega?
I see it's some honor society...but what's it all about? |

At my school, the requirements are to have a 3.0 GPA, as well as to have held positions in your Greek org and the university as a whole. Collin |
I was initiated this past Friday. I am not sure that the chapter on my campus is very active, so I am hoping to help change that soon. Right now, it is definitely seen as an honor to join, but it is still not looked upon as anything more than a nice thing to add to your resume.
I agree with KSigkid that at my university the majority of the members of Order of Omega are already officers/leaders of their respective organizations and would devote more time to that org than to an honorary org. I am not even sure how many undergrad members there are in my university's chapter. Chi O Cutie |
I actually checked into it today, and I found out that they are trying to bring it back. I'm already on an IFC committee...so this next meeting I'm to try and get on the committee bringing back Omega.

Order of Omega
I would love to have an Order of Omega thread (?) under the Omega section of GC. I see that lots of chapters are trying to recolonize or revamp their chapters and sharing ideas would be really helpful.
I am a current member and am very active in my chapter. AOIISilver |
Since this was posted, I'm proud to say that 2 of my daughters--1 Chi O and 1 AOII--are also Order of Omega members! If they can't be my sisters in Pi Phi, at least we can share Order of Omega!
Also, I made an idiot of myself tonight re: OOO. Several teachers and I were in conference with some parents and I caught sight of a certificate with a giant Omega on it about 20 feet behind the teacher whose room it was. I exclaimed, "Hey, you're in Order of Omega!" (Weird looks from everyone else--they were all talking about some student.):o She's an Alpha Gam from Tarleton State! |
My chapter Lambda Phi, won chapter of the year for this year! YAY OOO!
|
I was in Order of Omega... still have my Omega pin in the jewelry box. My husband questions why I keep it, so I just question him as to what else would I do with it?
On my campus the group was pretty active... sponsored a huge toy drive at Christmas among other things. |
I'm a member, I believe I initiated in Spring of 2004. I've thought about putting my pin on the lapel of my white coat. I've got a Nebraska Alumni pin there already and it's a nice conversation piece when I'm talking to patients.

Today we found out that Baby Berry has been tapped for Rho Lambda, another Greek honorary, which she shares with Blazercheer! I asked her if it's a big rival with Order of Omega but she had no idea.

Okay, members of either: if you're an alumnae, when you wear your sorority or fraternity pin (ie: NPC Badge Day), do you wear your Honorary Pins, too? Especially the Order of the Omega or Rho Lamdba pins? |

...well, except anonymously on a message board, that is. |
At Auburn, it was a huge big deal to wear your pin with all the honorary pins in between it and your guard. Auburn is very big on "accomplishments", though; if you look at any AU sorority website, it'll have an accomplishments page that lists what honors and awards their members have.

I think the last time I wore my Order of Omega pin was at Gamma Phi Convention in 2004 - maybe I wore it to a few alumnae business meetings since then, but I don't think so. It pretty much hangs out with my law fraternity pin in my jewelry box.
