Keeping a couple of the high number chapters in your upper group could really help out later. And no, nobody here is going to do that work for you. But DEFINITELY remember, your ranking only comes in to play to the extent that the chapters invite you back. Many and maybe most girls don't have full schedules after round 1. And that's ok. If nothing else a light round 2 schedule will give you precious time to rest so you can be your fully enthusiastic self at the houses who did invite you.

This. Not having 14 houses after round 1 or 8 houses after round 2 may seem like the end of the world, but let me promise you, it's not. Talk to an active during round 8 of 8 and that's the quality of conversations your full schedule PNMs are having :D

And have that 11th party be at a party that doesn't have a prestigious reputation and you'll blame it on AWKWARD, when really it's exhaustion. Keep note of what ORDER you saw each house. You remember parties 3-4/7-9 as great and 1/2/5/6 as ok and 10/11 as terrible? It's you, not them.

The start of 21 party has been pushed back to 3 pm on Thursday. I don't know the complete schedule other than that but it is going to make 4 impossible days even worse. Also no pnm will be punished if they cannot make it back to IU because if the weather. ( not sure exactly what that means either)

Looking forward to hearing your take on the new schedule and how it's working. Good luck to everyone involved. :)

My guess - it means that any chapter can invite a PNM to 2nd round if they want, regardless if she was able to attend their 21 party.
It could also mean that if say she can only attend 12 parties of first round - then she can choose which ones and hope for the best?

13 parties on Friday. We will be going from 9am to 920 pm with one break. Then we get to get up Saturday and do it all again!

Doesn't this type of schedule fall under the concept of hazing if chapters do it - to their members, their pledges, etc? I don't understand how schools can require this type of schedule.

Normally the schedule is ever so slightly more relaxed (9 am -8 pm day 1, 9 am-6 pm day 2)...most actives are just used to it, it's part of having 21 chapters unfortunately

For anyone who's interested, here is the new 21 party schedule:
Thursday, January 9th
3:00 - 3:30 / 3:50 - 4:20 / 4:40 - 5:10 / 5:30 - 6:00 / 6:20 - 6:50 / 7:10 - 7:40 / 8:00 - 8:30 / 8:50 - 9:20

Friday, January 10th
9:00 - 9:30 / 9:50 - 10:20 / 10:40 - 11:10 / 11:30 - 12:00 / 12:20 - 12:50 / 1:10 - 1:40 / BREAK 1:40 - 3:50 / 3:50 - 4:20 / 4:40 - 5:10 / 5:30 - 6:00 / 6:20 - 6:50 / 7:10 - 7:40 /8:00 - 8:30 / 8:50 - 9:20

If my daughter complains again this week about their horrific 3 day/6 chapter recruitment schedule (she sounded exhausted Sunday night and was complaining about losing her voice because "we practiced singing so much!"), I will remind her that she could be at Indiana and life on the other side could be much, much, much worse....:p

Wait...there is yet another new schedule for recruitment. Thursday is a no go and now recruitment begins on Friday. I am glad they are putting safety first. They will be running 23 events so the number of PNMs will be smaller at each event. Each party will be 45 minutes and PNMs will have some open slots to rest.

FRIDAY
9:00 - 9:45 /
10:05 - 10:50 /
11:10 - 11:55 / Drink Round
12:15 - 1:00 /
BREAK 1:00 - 3:10 /
3:10 - 3:55 /
4:15 - 5:00 /
5:20 - 6:05 / Drink Round
6:25 - 7:10

SATURDAY
9:00 - 9:45 /
10:05 - 10:50 /
11:10 - 11:55 / Drink Round
12:15 - 1:00 /
BREAK 1:00 - 3:10 /
3:10 - 3:55 /
4:15 - 5:00 /
5:20 - 6:05 / Drink Round
6:25 - 7:10

SUNDAY
9:00 - 9:45 /
10:05 - 10:50 / Drink Round
11:10 - 11:55 /
12:15 - 1:00 /
BREAK 1:00 - 3:10 /
3:10 - 3:55 /
4:15 - 5:00 / Drink Round
5:20 - 6:05 /
6:25 - 7:10 / Drink Round

It also looks like one round is being eliminated and PNMs will go 21-12-3. I hope I am getting correct information.

:eek::eek: Talk about a massive drop-off! Recs will be even more important now that the chapters suddenly have to cut huge numbers of girls with fewer chances to meet them. Ranking chapters for the PNMS will be really hard as well...hopefully Panhellenic provides them booklets to write their thoughts in or something to that effect.

CookiesNCream 01-07-2014 07:12 PM

^ The above schedule is correct but it's 24 rounds, not 23. So all PNMs will have 3 breaks somewhere in their 21 party schedule.

21 party will function as 14 party with skits, 12 party will function as 8 party with the slideshows, and 3 party will remain the same.

And don't worry, all PNMs will be receiving a book for notes and such just as they have in years past.

Clemonsgirl, a vast majority of IU PNMs do not get recs. IU did away with pre-recruitment activities this year and the recs were the gateway to getting those pre-recruitment invites. I briefly spoke with an advisor at a chapter who said they got around 100 and most of those were legacy forms or from relatives (niece, cousin, granddaughter) who weren't officially legacies in their GLO.

Interesting! Thanks for letting me know about that, as I figured that in a recruitment as large and competitive as Indiana's they'd be more important. And I'm glad to hear that they've always given out recruitment books as well-this year was the first year Clemson did it and I have no idea how previous PNMs kept 12 groups straight without one, let alone 21.

Recs are about as useful as the piece of paper they're written on at IU, just because of the sheer math involved. The chapters are actually easier to keep straight than you think because of the door chants/skits/etc. I still remember the door chants of some chapters and I went through recruitment a whopping 6 years ago :)

This will be a VERY interesting recruitment season at IU
