You & your daughter have probably already tried this, but contact her high school teachers to see if they were in a sorority in college, or if they know any Greek alumnae. It may be Six Degrees of Separation.

I wish I had jumped in on this earlier. I concur that the Sacramento area group is probably the closest to the Sierra foothills, but Reno is not TOO far either. Looking at the recs you are still trying to get, I am SURE there are a ton of Gamma Phi/A Phi/Kappa/Chi O alumnae in the Sac area (given the close-by chapters at UC Davis, Sac State, and the Bay Area schools). Given the number of folks I have know who have parents who have retired to the Sierra foothills (beautiful area, BTW), you probably have some rec sources close by.

There are regional differences. I have gotten rec requests as president of our local alumnae chapter, and I am not at all offended by this. I've even gotten a referral for a PNM who called our IH in desperation. I have no issue with helping these women, because our local Panhellenic Alumnae Chapter has no interest, none, nada, zip, in being involved in rec writing. We've discussed it...no interest. Sometimes alumnae make a FB post on the APH page about trying to help a PNM find someone to write a rec for a missing group...no response. All the recs I've written have been for women attending school in a southern state.
Recs just aren't big around here, and there is little acknowledgement of the worth of a rec written by someone who doesn't personally know the PNM. The chapter I advise gets less than a handful each year. |

So when I know a great girl who needs recs., I network among my friends who are members of other sororities and we usually can cover all the recs. a girl needs. I have even helped PNMs going to colleges where there is not a ZTA chapter. As we often say, if you can find one sorority woman, she may know others. It is all about networking. |

Bummer! I was in Sacramento for three weeks during the month of July. I probably could have helped the OP with Gamma Phi Beta. Ah well...I hope her daughter is having a good time right now!
