Our basic badge. Every member must pay for a badge and it is ordered right after Initiation. New members can select other badges right from the start at most chapters. Some just get the plain one for everybody though, it seems. I've met women who didn't seem to realize they could have gotten a different one.

Somehow your AGD plain badge seems a little too plain; much prefer your letters in their jeweled varieties.

Oh no, I disagree! I think there is a very simple beauty to the "plain" badges. I think they are even more beautiful than some of the blinged out versions. The design of the badge really stands out.

Ditto. I have the plain gold Gamma Phi Beta badge for that very reason. I think that some of our blinged out badges are a little too busy for my taste. It's especially hard to see our letters on the all pearl one, but I think if just the Phi is set in all pearl or all pearl and stone points, it looks fantastic!

My daughter is rushing this fall so when I had some downtime at work earlier this week I went to the Herff Jones website and checked out the badges for the sororities that have chapters at her school. So many choices from plain to ultra-blingy! I admit that I was really drawn to the ultra-blingy ones but of course it'll be her choice, not mine.

LOL, there was one blinged out badge that I loved so much that I kind of want her to join that house so I can buy it for her (kidding of course...kind of!) but of course I'd never say that to her!

This is our basic badge

We released one this year for our centennial that has diamonds instead of pearls and the points on the compass are sapphire. It's really pretty, but I do love our pearls.

I love the chased badges. I think they are just beautiful.

When I was initiated 15 years ago, this was the plain badge. This is actually my badge.

Looking at the Herff Jones site, this is the "plainest" badge you can get. You get this one or you get blinged out. When I was an advisor I would say it was about 50/50 on blinged out to non blinged out. It isn't an insane amount in cost difference to get a blinged out badge.

My original badge (above) was like 90 bucks (my parents bought it for me). It was about a 50 dollar difference to the roped badge (now the current plain one) and an even greater difference to get 4 point, alternating or full synthetic.

When I was initiatated in 1974 all I could afford was the plain badge. When I finally had some money as an alum, I bought a crown pearl AGD badge. When my four daughters initiated in 1997-2003, their chapter tradition was a plain badge. I love them all!

This post caught my eye just now ...

An AEPhi alumna can gift her badge to a legacy (sister, daughter, or granddaughter) upon the legacy's initiation into AEPhi. It's the legacy's choice whether to wear her sister's / mother's / grandmother's badge or buy one of her own. This is the only situation where a new member is not required to buy her own badge.
