I use Aveda. I moved to my current neighborhood a few months ago, and there's an Aveda hair salon right up the street. I needed a haircut, so I tried them and liked the results! :)
The shampoo, conditioner, and other hair products are a bit pricey, but you only need to use a little each time you wash, and their products are all natural, no animal testing or anything like that. The only problem is that, in summer, I sometimes end up with a swarm of bees around my head... :( |
I love the Bed Head line of products. I have to orange stuff now, and got the "dumb blonde" shampoo when I got my hair highlighted this afternoon. I'll let you know how that works. It was funny the other day, one of my housemates was like "I love going in the bathromm after you take a shower, it smells so good" I guess I keeps my hair pretty healthy b/c in spite of coloring my hair it's still in pretty great condition. I also used the leave in conditioner when I was in Florida over the summer & my hair was all crispy-like, and it fixed me right up.
About the Mane 'N Tail stuff, omg. I got that b/c I heard it it makes hair grow really fast but it makes my hair look like a greasey mess after about 12 hours. Heaven forbid you use an products on it as well, then you have to shower every 6 hours to keep it looking clean. I wasn't pleased but I'm glad it works for you guys. When I modeled, the one thing I had to promise to do was to quit using Pantene. It fades hair color, I'm guessing the wax rumors may be true and the buildup of deposits blocks the color. Everyone was wondering why my color kept getting so dull, until I told them my shampoo :o I haven't touched the stuff since. Heidi |
I'm all about the cheap stuff! Suave, White Rain and VO5 are my choices. I used to not use Suave because it stiprred my hair, but I stayed at a friend's house, and that's all she had, and this time, it made my hair feel great.
I personally love either strawbery or the coconut one! I don't waste my money on the expensive ones because if you look at the ingreidents, it's essentially the same. Besides, I don't have that kind of money! |
I use Matrix (great conditioner), Joico, or Biolage + I love Finesse (sp?) conditioner and mousse.
has anyone with blonde or red hair had a relaxer? I want straight hair and have tried a "straightner" twice-they just applied perm solution and I had to sit there for 2 hrs while she combedmy hair-did not work either time. So I was thinking about a relaxer but I have really thin hair strands and am afraid my hair would fall out:eek: |
HeidiHo: I noticed Pantene stripped my hair too - but did it make yours fall out? It did mine!
Also, did they change the formula or something of the Suave shampoo that smells like strawberries? Back in the day when it first came out it used to smell so rank! Ill have to check it out again! OK, I dont know how to say this correctly...so dont bash me :) My roomate in college was african american. And she used this amazing shampoo - and I cant remember what it is called - except it has PINK in the title and it is for african american hair. I was out of shampoo one morning and borrowed it, and let me tell you...that shampoo was amazing! I have never ever ever had such bouncy shiny awesome blonde hair. If anyone knows the name of it please post it! |

Biolage. I will NEVER use anything else. No other shampoo has worked as well or smelled as good as Biolage.

Volgirl, if you are comfortable, this is what I would say do... go to a hair shop frequented by African-Americans. I'm Black, and I wouldn't know what to call them, lol. But most times, they are operated by either African-Americans or Asians. The reason I say try this type of shop is because they will have more of an "ethnic" hair selection (for lack of a better term) than would somewhere like Sally's. Anyway, walk around, up and down the ailes, sniff some stuff (lol, cuz that's just fun, lol), and look for the bottle that your roommate had. If you still remember what it looks like. And then buy a small bottle, in case you have the wrong one, you only waste a little bit of money. :) Now, remember, most of us don't wash our hair every day, so I'm not sure if the shampoos are made "differently" because of that. Wow, this is interesting, lol. Soror Steeltrap, ask your Cosmetologist sister, lol. Ok, now, AggieAXO, about the relaxers. If you are talking about the same type of relaxers that Black people (I would've said women, but you know we have these Al Sharpton and James Brown characters, LOL!) use, BE CAREFUL!!!! Because some of them can have some strong chemicals, and you hair WILL fall out. My suggestion, and I'm not a cosmotologist, but I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night (j/k, LMAO, I am giddy today, lmao)... ANYWAY... I would buy a Just For Me relaxer. Just For Me is for children's hair, so it's milder. Test a portion of your hair, in an inconspicuous place. So this way, if it falls out, you only lose a portion, and you won't be bald. :) |
Thanks for the advice :) I think she could buy it at like Wal-Mart...but next time Im out Ill look and report back...it wasnt oil, but shampoo - and it was fabulous!

Has anyone ever used a hot oil like V05 or something? What does it do?
I haven't had a hair cut in a while (I'm getting one in a week). My hair is really dry (doesn't help that it's Winter) and the ends are terrible. Would something like the above help? I've also heard a rumor that with age (not that I'm OLD) your hair will change texture sometimes. I've noticed my hair is a lot thicker than it once was...sometimes that bugs me because I miss my lovely thin flat hair....anyone know? HOOTIE :D |
Hootie,
I have tried V05...and it was horrible in my hair. I have more dry hair...but I cant use conditioner because it totally makes my hair so greasy - pretty weird. But V05 made it look like I hadnt washed my hair in a month! And the one time I tried it 3 people came up to me and asked if I had used V05...lol it must have been obvious ;) |

Hootie---It's really ironic that you posted this b/c my hair has been doing the same thing. It's always been thick but soft and very shiny. I need a haircut and my split ends are making my hair look gross and it feels dryer than normal. I went to Wal Mart today and bought the V05 hot oil treatment :) I'm going to try it tomorrow and I'll report back :) |
