(That was the best recruitment story ever. I'm sort of disappointed that the OP of it went BSC and never finished it).

I'm taking creative writing this semester, and you can bet your GC account that writing that story as a comedy story has crossed my mind at least once. :D

I think Carnation's got it...maybe that special "thing" was that the OP WAS a guy. Maybe the sorority women figured out she was hiding the candy in the pink sequined tights! :D I couldn't resist, really.

:rolleyes:Yup, that's me a total transphobe, you outted me. My friends in the drag show at Connections will be so surprised when they find out.

Guess only some people are allowed to make snarky comments, duly noted.

Murphy's Law of Rush Crushes states that the PNM that everybody just LOOOOOVES and OMG JUST HAS TO HAVE BECAUSE SHE IS SOOO CUTE and SWEET and has OMG I WILL CRY IF NO ONE LIKES HER fights over her will do one of the following things:
*Be a complete waste of a bid. She will do nothing except sit and look pretty, then depledge before initiation.
*Terminate shortly following initiation because "it's like, not fun anymore." or some other dumb thing.
*Create some major drama within the next year, make a scene about it, make like 60% of the chapter hate her, and cause mass terminations before terminating herself.

The corollary to this law states that the girl who IS SO NOT the OMG LOVE HER FAVORITE or the OMG SHE WILL GET IN OR I WILL QUIT girl will usually become some sort of officer and end up participating WAY more than the girl that everyone is just SO in love with.

The other Corollary to this is that If OMG LOVE HER girl does make it to initiation - she will have a younger sister - who will cause even more drama than she did.

The Lower Standards Theorem: Any woman who gets released from formal recruitment and/or drops out because she didn't like the options she had left will think she is the most desirable PNM in informal recruitment and have chapters clamoring for her that released her the first time.

Colony Corollary: Any woman who has an unfavorable formal recruitment will consider herself a shoe-in for a new colonization.

WestcoastWonder 01-29-2014 01:04 AM

ALL OF THIS!! This post needs to be stickied!!

And BraveMarroon, I'm sad to say I'm guilty of The Glitch Corollary. I swore up and down for days, even weeks after rush that my number one house dropped me on philanthropy accidentally lol.

The Indiana Effect: Moms and PNM's will flock to GC after IU recruitment as though we old biddies around here can do anything about it.

My old roommate in a nutshell. She used her grades as an excuse for her awful attitude when they were just the icing on the cake, she ended up getting only 2 invites for informal and no bid from either house. She transferred after that semester.

"Pledge the Library" Corollary -- any PNM who just misses the minimum GPA for recruitment believes that she is special, that she deserves to be an exception to the GPA cut-off, and anyone who tells her "No" is a heartless biddy

KDCat 01-29-2014 09:16 AM

The Law of Winter Recruitment - if you act like an idiot as a first semester freshman, you're going to have a tough time during winter recruitment.

Why, yes, the chapters are aware of your drunk binges, your drug use, the 15 fraternity guys that you slept with, and the fact that you called a chapter member "a stupid bitch."

KSUViolet06 01-29-2014 04:39 PM

Murphy's Law of Taking Grade Risks states that Grade Risk Girl You Take Because OMG YOU LOVE HER will NOT have better grades after she gets a bid.

She typically does not meet the GPA to get initiated. If she does, she BARELY scrapes it, gets initiated, then ends up being sent to Honor Council/Standards for grades by the end of her first year. Then she drops out of school entirely. If she does not drop out of school, she spends her entire sophomore year on probation for grades and quits because she "can't like, go to socials and stuff."

Lovethesand 01-29-2014 05:07 PM

Let me take a crack at this.

The Old Biddy Corollary: The nicer, more well reasoned a post on THAT site the more likely the poster is an old biddy pretending to be a college student. The old biddy should mind her own old business, quit pretending to be a college student, and stay on GC where she belongs with all the other old biddies. On the other hand if an old biddy says something a PNM or mom doesn't agree with on GC then she's just mean.

DeltaBetaBaby 08-27-2014 10:32 PM

The Administrivial Effect: Any time GC'ers don't like the way a chapter or CPH does recruitment, someone will suggest writing to the president of the university.

Corrolary: That person doesn't give a ****.

HQWest 08-27-2014 11:09 PM

I have a new one Transformania -
When a PNM has the sincere belief that because they want to be Greek and they want to go to a particular university, that the Greek system will change to become the kind of Greek system they want (build houses or become more open to upperclassmen) rather than they should use that as a reason to consider other schools
