I posted my original response because honestly it is not for you or DrPhil or anyone else to give posters crap for their beliefs. That is what is happening. I'm sorry that you don't like that I am defending peoples opinions who happen to differ from yours. As I said, yes the death of a 27 year old is a big deal, but I personally find more things important (like the stuff you listed). This is a public forum. Not everyone on Greekchat is going to care that she died and they have the RIGHT to come onto this thread and say so. This is not the first and it most certainly will not be the last thread on greekchat where people have different opinions. And again, because it is a public forum they have a right to their opinions and to post them. |

It doesn't matter whether people who express sympathy are fans of Amy Winehouse. You are all over the place over a topic that you claim to find insignificant. You care enough about Amy Winehouse to still be in this thread. Go find some CNN headlines to concern yourself with. |

Example: A retro recruitment thread. All of the people posting in it have some sort of stake in NPC recruitment and are enjoying the thread. I post saying "NPC recruitment is stupid." Yes, I have the right to post that. But isn't it stupid to use that thread as a platform for that opinion. Why yes, yes it is. So certainly you are free to post dumb opinions as I am free to point them out. |

WTF happened in this thread? DrPhil and Sen are awesome.
Also I defriended someone on facebook over his response of "one less crack whore in the world." I'm not particularly a fan of her music, but it is tragic nonetheless. |
As someone who's actually been trying to find out more on this story, all I can say is, I must have different stations than you, because the most I've seen on it all day is a 5 minute story on Headline News Network. I've seen NOTHING on any other news channel. E had a crawl going last night. MTV (which I thought might say something because she was a musician - you know, the "M" part) hasn't even had a crawl. They thought it more important to show reruns of Teen Mom.
It's anything but saturating the airwaves. And why on God's green earth would People put the Norway shootings or the national debt on the cover? That's what Time and Newsweek (not to mention the daily newspapers) are for. That comment is about as ridiculously idiotic as being upset that In Style didn't do a cover about the death of Osama bin Laden. |
Her death has definitely been treated as a SIDE story.
|
Exactly. I haven't even seen anything on the BBC which is where I would expect it to be as she was much bigger there than she was here. PhoenixAzul might be able to fill us in on that if she pops in.

^^^^Right. I don't see this ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL OVER the news as compared to say, Michael Jackson's death (which really was on TV 24/7 for at least a week.) Not sure what TV people are watching. The top story is definitely Norway, which because I post in an Amy Winehouse thread, I obviously don't care about. Because people discussing celeb related news obviously don't care about current events.
Sidenote: some of the reactions to this I have seen are ridic, though. Ex: Oh, well she should have stopped doing drugs (a tweet from one of my brother's friends.) Some folks really do not understand addiction at all. If you could "just stop" you would. |
I feel really bad for her and her family, having to go through her struggles and her death in such a public manner.
Have any more details come out about it? I don't know if it was an accidental overdose or a planned suicide. So strange about the age 27 coincidences! |
R.I.P Amy

I agree that like most people, I could see it coming, Amy had been given so many chances to get clean, but she just couldn't shake off her demons. However, when anybody passes, its a very sad occasion, and for the haters, please don't forget that Amy has family and friends that she has left behind. BBC has just mentioned on the 6am news that her autopsy will be performed today, and that Amy's songs/albums have rocketed back up the itunes chart. She, like the other members of the 27 club, had a great talent, which will be very much missed by her fans around the world. Hopefully after such a troubled life, she will now be able to rest in peace... |
