My geologist officemate, who is an APhiA, saw the gold blazers on your website and said "ARUGH! That looks like boogers." He ordered one anyway, and said he doesn't care for it. We've been debating on how to decorate our office in black and gold. We're the only geologists around, and the only greeks. We're nerds like that. :D

You're much dumber than I suspected. Much.

Fail.

I love our colors, but find them hard to wear, that's not the same as not being head over heels with them though.

I care less for my school's colors, or lack thereof. Blue and white are boring, particularly in collegiate block letters.

DrPhil 06-19-2011 03:37 PM

Yeah colors or symbols can be difficult to wear, or not look good on everything, without darn near making you frown or cringe.

There are BAD mixes of maroon and lavender but there are very pretty mixes as well.

Hearts and doves are pretty easy, snakes slightly less so, but more ideal for jewelry.

/what you said

Yeah - I love my GLO's colors & symbols, but when it comes to my school's colors, that's a different story. (I still refuse to buy the pink crap they sell now, though. I may not look good in gold, but school merchandise should not come in "regular" and pink "girl" versions. Gross.)

Because I'm the big sports fan that I am, I HATE when I see girls wearing pink versions of a Patriots, Bruins or Red Sox jersey. However, funny story...

When I was in college, I had a Penn State shirt made in pink and black, the school's original colors. Everyone at school thought it was awesome, but when I wore it back at home in New England, a couple of my friends said, "Ugh, why did you get one of those 'girly' jerseys?"

And when you tell people that Penn State's original colors were pink and black, it usually leads to a look of disbelief and a Google search. :p

The fact that you are a Penn State Alumna and you KNEW that makes me really happy! You are pretty awesome! Can you believe those were our old colors? I remember my sorority once had shirts made up in black and pink (pink for obvious reasons) and it said something about bringing it back to PSU old school style. I'll have to find that shirt.

Before going off to college, I tried to go for the grunge look and before that the hippy look (what was I thinking?) so, pink was NOT one of my choice colors. After joining I learned to LOVE pink and now incorporate it into my every day life. I love our symbol the quatrefoil because I see it all over: hotels, fountains, jewelry, churches, cemeteries, etc. I will def. be incorporating the quatrefoil and color pink into my wedding! I have to say that I LOVE our symbols--to include our mascot, the lion!

Agreed. While I love our colors, I rarely wear them in combination b/c the mixes I've found aren't the best. I usually will wear one of the colors in isolation though I did find a gorgeous maternity dress in maroon with a very pretty lavender print that I'll be wearing in Orlando next week at our fancy dinner celebrating our upcoming baby girl. :D

As for jewelry, I have a LOT of pearl jewelry & though the amethyst isn't an official jewel, it's my birthstone & there is a lot of Sigma Kappa jewelry decorated with amethysts so it works for me. I don't particularly have jewelry with hearts, doves or snakes but I'm ok with that.

I think I'm fairly lucky how mine turned out- green is my favorite color, and I dig the whole dagger/skulls thing. Teddy bears are ok, but the whole katydid thing is a bit weird. I know a lot of people that really love the nautilus shell as well.

And even though the colors are officially olive green and pearl white, I see stuff with all sorts of different versions of green on it. I'm not one for that bright, light green, but everything else looks great, I think.

Now the secret can be told. A Phi A is really a front for Century 21 real estate. LOL. That's all I think of when I hear gold blazers.

I wish we had a jewel, too. I wonder how many of the national orgs do/do not have them.

I'm so mad at this! If it's any consolation, yours are waaaaaay nicer.

You might be able to rock it. :o
