First of all, I'd like to apologize to our non-Greek GreekChatters for stupid's Greek/Geek statement. She obviously doesn't know any better. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/rolleyes.gif Stupid, you do realize that there are people on this board who choose not to be in a GLO, right?

Any woman who expects to boost her social status just by membership in a sorority doesn't deserve to be in one. Why be in a sorority if your sisters don't like you at all? If you need a sorority just to boost your ego and not be labeled as a "geek", then you need help.

Ouch! One of the biggest bitches I've seen in a while. I feel sorry for your sorority sisters or anyone on your college campus. I hope you don't go to Southern Illinois University at Ewardsville.

I just have a question I thought she said that she was not IN the sorority because she did not complete rituals. Then she said that she was in the sorority and was quitting.

Is it just me or is something not just stupid but also wrong?

Not that stupid even deserves an answer to the question... but. We had a girl from my pledge class simply not show up for initiation even though no one knew she wasn't coming. She disaffiliated after our initiation had taken place and pledged another house the following year. Be advised that this is really bad form and will create a lot of bad feelings - especially on a campus as small as SIU. Then again, someone who would show up for initiation and then walk out part way through has no concept of tact and dignity to begin with.

WOW!!! That's pretty harsh. I know tons of people that aren't Greek and they are definitely not geeks. I think you need to totally rethink everything you've said on here and the names you've called people before you post again.

Other than that...have a really nice day!

Veruca, you are so right. This person sparked my curiosity, so I went and checked SIU-Edwardsville's website. The number of NPC sororities on that campus is extremely small (compared to other campuses).

You never know who's watching these boards!

somethinstupid 04-10-2001 03:20 PM

You know what? Screw it! (Most) social sororities suck anyways. Thanx for the advice Ohteenyweenytitties!

I understand that some people were pretty harsh about your original question, somethinstupid. But that doesn't mean you should insult them. Please try to be more civil when posting on GreekChat. Thanks! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

OTW, you are a highly respected member of GC and I know you're not in the least affected by the psychotic whinings of the tag team. They will certainly, I expect, be ousted again while you will continue to post some great insights on the board!

LOL Carnation. First I was a "bitch" and then I had "teeny titties"...is that the best she/they could do? http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/rolleyes.gif It's no wonder why she can't get along with her "sorority sisters".

I only delved deeper into her suspicious post, and hey--if she/they can't handle it and needs to resort to petty name calling, then to each her own. Let's try and see if anyone really takes her posts seriously after this one!

That was the furthest I made it into the initiation ritual and then I told them I did not want to go through the rest of the ritual.

Every single sorority and fraternity have different rituals. While some may have similarities there is nothing about them that everyone does. So NO not at all familiar.

Now, if you are who a lot of people on here think you are; I was under the impression that you joined a local relgious glo, so why do this? And if you are her, please, please, please try to heal and MOVE ON!!

Now, if you are honestly someone else, please forgive all of the negativity. And have more respect for EVERYONE on here. They'll respect you too.

I've interpreted all your posts to mean: You are right now a pledge to a sorority. You were supposed to be initiated, but backed out before you actually, physically, saw anything related to ritual. Now they're going to make you go through the pledge period again, but you're having second thoughts. You hate the sisters, but would rather be with them than in no group at all.

If this is at all acurate:

You're going Greek for all the WRONG reasons. If you join a group and hate the girls you will be miserable! A million times more unhappy than you are right now!!!

As far as joining another group, follow PenguinTrax advice. If the group you're in right now considers you a full fledged member, your screwed. If they still consider you a pledge; have them sign the release papers to panhellenic and wait a year. Maybe by then you can come up with a tactful way to explain everything to the other groups on campus.

As far as the initiation fee goes...my chapter has been known to let the girls give it to them the next day. But it's not because of a tremendous need for sisters. It's because when you care enough to call someone a sister you don't think they're going to turn around and #$%# the chapter!

And no matter who you are; I hope you find happiness soon!

Sounds like something she/he/they took directly off "THAT WEBSITE" you know? And pardon me, but I wouldn't even divulge THAT small amount of info to the general public.

Somethinstupid--I do wish you the best of luck with your decision, but if you must result to name calling here, I wonder how you've treated your sisters and if perhaps your attitude doesn't have something to do with your unhappiness within your organization.

Good luck with your decisions, I hope you do find a group that feels like home.
