OMG.

Teenaged girls in Ohio,

When it's almost summer, the snow is gone, and it's 60 out--PUT THE UGGS AWAY.

I am tired of seeing you walking around in shorts/skirts and UGGs during the summer.

Thanks,
Violet.

Second!

I honestly didn't know they still made duck boots! They were very big back in the day when I was in junior high. Of course, I couldn't afford actual duck boots so I was stuck with f--k boots or whatever the hell they were called.

Back to the topic at hand, I don't understand how duck boots could be remotely trashy unless someone has a rubber fetish.

I see this in Alabama. In some parts it gets semi-chilly (at least for us natives) at night in the summer. Ok, I'll buy Uggs and shorts...at night...in May...if you aren't going out in public. If you do, I will talk shit about you.

What is that about and why do so many girls do it? Also, in the winter you wear Uggs with jeans or leggings (note: leggings are not pants). If you wear Uggs and a denim mini, again, I will laugh at you. That makes zero sense.

Life-long Midwesterner who also loves LLBean. And duck boots rock! They are warm, dry and comfy. If you live somewhere with a real autumn where it gets wet and chilly, you understand why these are great. :)

BACKED.
HARD.

Tights/leggings =/= trousers. Seriously women.

And if you are ever in doubt as to if a garment is a shirt or a dress, the answer is assuredly SHIRT, and therefore, you need PANTS.

YES.

I am so tired of seeing butt crack and cameltoes. It's a plague on my campus.

I totally wear my Uggs to the library at night. For privacy reasons I won't say where I am, but suffice to say I am south of the Mason-Dixon line ;)
It gets cold inside! I like my toes to be warm!

I laughed when I saw this because not only is this acceptable in my home state, it's cool. Granted we do our part to keep the Ugg market in business as well:)

LOL. That's unfortunate.

So true.

And stop bitching about being cold. You should have worn real pants!

In the Boston suburbs, we were wearing duck boots in the mid-70s well before the Preppy Handbook gave them the seal of approval. The boys wore the ones that went a bit up the leg, the girls wore the slip-on moccasin style. You need them on a daily basis for those Massachusetts winters. They last forever and don't get shabby. Sporto and LL Bean both made high-qualuty, not-too-expensive versions. I think I am only on my 4th pair since '77. I did notice this year that the current Sporto version does not use as thick a rubber as the LL Bean version.

In short, preppy, not trashy.

Don't see them much around Alabama any more but they were the epitome of preppy a few years ago. Still see some guys in them....most women now wear the more stylish Wellies....houndstooth check and white with red dots are very popular...

To clarify, I don't know that I would say that they were a fashion statement, at least for guys. I go back far enough to when preppy wasn't so much a fashion statement as it was simply what people wore -- no real statement intended. L.L. Bean was popular because they made great outdoor clothes.

Now, the girls I knew who had kelly green duck shoes -- that was a fashion statement.
