The original poster is closer to the age of the chicks going through recruitment than anyone who has posted.... so I am not understanding how Sex and The City is "played out" among her age group if she's obviously in her age group.

And by "I am not understanding" I mean shut up.

Since when do you get to tell NPCers to shut up about NPC recruitment themes? LOL.

She could be a 7th year Senior for all we know...or like my friend in Jr. High who was obsessed with Days of Our Lives. She made it clear that this was her idea, and one person's idea of what's current in popculture could be much different than the rest of the campus. If the whole NPC board likes it, it may work on that campus. The women here are just expressing that in most current cases, it would be a bad idea.

Sex and the City premiered in 1998. 12 years ago. A kid who's 18 right now was 6 when it came out. In fact, a college freshman was in middle school when it went off the air.

And it's not as good as Golden Girls.

Some recruitment themes are classic. This would not be one of them.

Furthermore, I think you're underestimating how well connected many of the alumnae on this board are to collegiate chapters. You can call us old all you want, but that doesn't mean we don't know what does and does not work (or what is old and tired) on a college campus. Frankly, SATC was old when I was in undergrad.

(The first and horrendous second movie introduced younger female audiences to SATC)

I definitely agree, It's not played out because the second movie just came out last year. But we've already decided on another theme that you guys have given me, so thank you all very much!! :)

Some classic themes work. When I went through recruitment in the spring of 2008, the theme was Wizard of Oz and the Panhellenic tagline was something like "There's No Place Like Home". Obviously, the book is almost a century old and the movie is from my Grandma's youth, but its a classic and is still relevant. I remember loving the theme for the same reason I love the Dr. Suess one, but if you use a classic, be careful with the shirts. Ours were a little overly cutesy and have a place in history as one of the most vile and ugly t-shirts Panhel has made at our school...and there are a lot of vile shirts to our Panhel's credit.

So classic pop culture, if done right, can work. Sex and the City? Not so much.
